Jakarta, INTI - The Indonesia Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen cooperation with global-scale industry players, including those from China, to enhance investment flows and establish Indonesia as a manufacturing and export hub. This effort is expected to accelerate the strengthening of the domestic industrial structure and stimulate national economic growth.
To deepen this comprehensive partnership, Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita held a bilateral meeting with Jon Dove, Associate Government Affairs Director of Xiaomi Communications Co., Ltd., in Shanghai, China, on Friday, October 10, 2025.
The meeting was also attended by Eko S.A. Cahyanto, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry; Setia Diarta, Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE); as well as representatives from PT Xiaomi Technology Indonesia, including Zhao Wentao (Managing Director) and Tel Lee (Product Certification Manager).
On this occasion, Minister Agus expressed his appreciation to Xiaomi for its investment and contribution to building the smartphone and television industry ecosystem in Indonesia. “Xiaomi has become an important part of strengthening the national electronics supply chain. The Indonesian government highly values Xiaomi’s commitment to continue investing and expanding its product lines in Indonesia,” he said in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday, October 13, 2025.
The Minister also stated that the Indonesian government supports Xiaomi’s plan to locally produce tablets in Indonesia, particularly for models already available in the domestic market. “We encourage Xiaomi to promptly submit a detailed five-year business plan to realize the new investment plans in Indonesia. The plan is expected to include strategies for developing production facilities, both independently and in collaboration with local partners,” he explained.
In addition to the electronics sector, the Minister also highlighted investment opportunities for Xiaomi in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. “We are aware that Xiaomi has launched a high-performance electric vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7. We encourage Xiaomi to explore investments in environmentally friendly vehicle production in Indonesia. This will expand choices for Indonesian consumers while strengthening the national green industry ecosystem,” he explained.
It should be noted that Xiaomi Communications Co., Ltd. is a multinational technology company from China, founded in 2010 and based in Beijing. The company operates in consumer electronics, smart manufacturing, and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms.
Xiaomi’s Footprint and Market Presence in Indonesia
As of 2025, Xiaomi has invested approximately Rp3 trillion in Indonesia for the production of smartphones, tablets, and televisions. The company has now become one of the leading smartphone brands in the national market, holding a 21% market share in the second quarter of 2025.
“Xiaomi’s investment contributes significantly to job creation, technology transfer, and strengthening the competitiveness of the national electronics industry. This aligns with the Making Indonesia 4.0 vision, which prioritizes the electronics sector," concluded the Minister of Industry.
Conclusion
