Telkomsat Expands Satellite Internet Services for Vessels Across Indonesia

5 hours ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI - Telkom subsidiary Telkomsat is strengthening its satellite-based connectivity services to provide reliable internet access for vessels operating beyond the reach of terrestrial networks across Indonesian waters, according to Detik iNET.

The initiative addresses communication and operational data-sharing challenges faced by maritime operators, particularly along shipping routes located far from shore.

The satellite connectivity solutions serve a wide range of maritime industries, including shipping, fisheries, energy and mining, as well as vessels supporting offshore operations.

Telkomsat Commercial Director Andri Yunianto said the high mobility of vessels across Indonesia’s waters requires communication technology that is both reliable and adaptable.

“The maritime industry is highly dynamic. Vessels are constantly moving and often operate in areas beyond the reach of terrestrial networks. Telkomsat aims to provide connectivity solutions that are not only reliable, but also easy to use and tailored to customers’ needs while operating at sea,” Andri said.

Satellite Connectivity Powers Maritime Operations

Beyond enabling crew members to stay connected with their families during extended periods at sea, the satellite infrastructure supports operational data exchange, fleet monitoring, coordination with control centers, and access to cloud-based applications.

Telkomsat also offers end-to-end services covering needs assessment, equipment installation, activation, and technical support, helping maritime businesses accelerate digitalization and improve operational efficiency.

“For us, providing connectivity on board is about more than simply delivering internet access. Our goal is to help customers maintain productivity, enhance operational performance, and create safer and more comfortable sailing experiences through technology,” Andri said.

Conclusion

Telkomsat’s satellite connectivity is helping bridge Indonesia’s maritime connectivity gap by keeping vessels connected beyond terrestrial network coverage. With reliable internet, operational data services, fleet monitoring, and end-to-end technical support, the technology is enabling a more connected, efficient, and digitally driven maritime industry.
