Jakarta,  INTI - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid has commended the strong cooperative stance shown by digital platforms X and Bigo Live in fulfilling their obligations under Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operations for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

“We appreciate platforms that have demonstrated full cooperation in meeting compliance requirements, namely X and Bigo Live,” Meutya stated during a press conference at the Ministry’s office on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The actions taken by both platforms are seen as concrete compliance, going beyond commitments and reflected in actual adjustments to their systems and policies.

Platform X has implemented a new minimum age requirement of 16, as stated on its Help Center page. It has also committed to initiating the identification and deactivation of underage user accounts starting March 28, 2026.

Meanwhile, Bigo Live has raised its minimum age requirement to 18+, as outlined in its User Agreement and Privacy Policy. The platform has also strengthened its protection measures through a multi-layered moderation system combining artificial intelligence and human oversight to address underage accounts.

Compliance Set as Minimum Standard, Enforcement Measures Prepared

The Minister emphasized that these steps demonstrate how global digital platforms can respond swiftly and responsibly to Indonesia’s regulatory requirements.

“The government instructs all digital platforms operating in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services with applicable regulations. Let me be clear, there is no compromise when it comes to compliance in order to operate in Indonesia. There is absolutely no compromise,” Meutya asserted.

Furthermore, the government stressed that the level of compliance shown by X and Bigo Live should serve as the minimum standard for all other platforms.

Authorities will continue to monitor platform developments on a daily basis to ensure that commitments are not merely formalities, but are translated into tangible actions.

For platforms that have yet to demonstrate full compliance, the government urged them to promptly fulfill all obligations without delay. It also confirmed that escalation measures are in place and that firm administrative actions will be taken if necessary to ensure Indonesia’s digital space remains safe and child-friendly.

Conclusion

The proactive compliance shown by X and Bigo Live highlights a clear benchmark for digital platforms operating in Indonesia. With firm regulatory enforcement and continuous monitoring in place, the government is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring a safer and more accountable digital environment, particularly for children.
