PP TUNAS Takes Effect, Platforms Required to Restrict Children's Access

2 weeks ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI - The government has officially enacted Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operations for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

This regulation requires all digital platforms to restrict children’s access based on age and strengthen the protection of children’s personal data.

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid emphasized that the policy represents a firm step by the state to safeguard children in the digital space.

“There is no compromise when it comes to compliance. Every business entity operating in Indonesia must adhere to the applicable laws,” she stated at the Ministry’s office in Central Jakarta on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Platforms Begin Compliance, Government Signals Enforcement

The government has issued official letters and directives to eight platforms, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox, requesting them to promptly submit their commitments and action plans for complying with PP TUNAS.

Meutya noted that several platforms have begun making adjustments, with some already demonstrating full cooperation.

“Two platforms, X and Bigo Live, have shown full cooperation. Compliance status remains dynamic. We are still waiting until tomorrow and will continue monitoring,” she said.

Meanwhile, Roblox and TikTok have also shown a cooperative stance.

“We are still urging both to complete their compliance measures so that implementation can be carried out comprehensively,” she added.

Meutya further stressed that the government is prepared to pursue enforcement measures against non-compliant platforms, including sanctions in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.

Conclusion

The implementation of PP TUNAS marks a decisive move by the Indonesian government to strengthen child protection in the digital ecosystem. As platforms begin to adjust, the policy underscores that compliance is not optional, with authorities ready to enforce sanctions to ensure a safer online environment for children.
