Minister Bahlil States Martabe Gold Mine License Revocation Was Based on Assessment

Jakarta, INTI - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the revocation of the Mining Business Permit (IUP) of PT Agincourt Resources, the operator of the Martabe gold mine in Batang Toru, North Sumatra, had gone through a through assessment process. 

“Of course, the revocation has gone through a comprehensive review, and everything has been carried out accordingly,” the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources said when met after a working meeting with Commission XII at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, January 22, 2026. 

Bahlil added that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will further process matters related to the revocation of the Martabe gold mine’s IUP by the Forest Area Regulation Task Force (Satgas PKH).

Separately, the Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Tri Winarno, explained that the follow-up measures include coordination between the Ministry and the Forest Area Regulation Task Force (Satgas PKH). 

Government Cities Through Review Behind Martabe Mine Permit Revocation 

The violations committed by PT Agincourt Resources, the operator of the Martabe gold mine, will be addressed through coordination between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Satgas PKH.

“We are still continuously coordinating with Satgas PKH regarding how the resolution will be carried out and other related matters,” Tri said.

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Satgas PKH released a list of 28 companies that were found to have violated regulations on the utilization of forest areas. 

The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg), Prasety Hadi, stated that the 28 companies consist of 22 holders of Forest Utilization Business Approvals (PBPH) for natural forests and plantation forests, along with six companies operating in the mining, plantation, and timber forest product utilization sectors.

President Prabowo Subianto has decided to revoke the licenses of the 28 companies after they were proven to have violated regulations, including Agincourt Resources.

The decision was made by President Prabowo while chairing a limited meeting held virtually from London, United Kingdom, on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Company Awaits Official Notification 

PT Agincourt Resources said it respects the government’s decision regarding the revocation of its mining business permit (IUP) by President Prabowo Subianto following flash flooding in Sumatra.

The Senior Manager of Corporate Communication at PT Agincourt Resources, Katarina Siburian Hardono, stated that the company is unable to provide further comments at this time, as it has not yet received an official notification regarding the revocation.

She added that the company does not yet have detailed information about the decision to revoke the mining business permit (IUP). 

“The Company became aware of the information regarding the revocation of the Mining Business Permit by the Forest Area Regulation TaskForce through media reports,” Katarina said.

The revocation of the Martabe gold mine’s operating permit reflects the government’s commitment to enforcing regulations related to forest and land use. While authorities continue coordinating follow-up actions, PT Agincourt Resources has expressed its respect for the decision while awaiting formal communication.
