Jakarta, INTI - Meta Platforms Inc. gave its response regarding the regulation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP TUNAS) and its derivative Ministerial Regulations. The regulation aims to protect children under 16 from high-risk digital platforms and has been in effect since March 28, 2026.
Berni Moestafa, Meta’s Head of Public Policy for Indonesia and the Philippines, said the company will continue discussing the regulation with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).
“We will continue discussions with Komdigi over the next few months, including regarding the risk-based self-assessment, and will prepare for the final results,” he said when confirmed by Bloomberg Technoz on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Teen Accounts Was Launched Last Year
Berni claimed that Meta has introduced and launched Teen Accounts for Instagram and Facebook in Indonesia since the regulation was passed in 2025. Teen Account is claimed to provide a redesigned Facebook and Instagram experience for teens, and includes integrated protections to address parents' concerns.
In addition, Teen Accounts include protection features that track who teens interact with online, what content they view, and whether their time online is being used productively.
"All of these features are activated automatically," Berni said.
Meta has also changed tens of millions of Indonesian teens’ regular accounts on Facebook and Instagram into Teen Accounts. Meta believes this feature provides a low-risk experience as stipulated in PP TUNAS.
"We are also committed to continuing to educate parents and guardians so they are aware of Teen Accounts and the security features available," he concluded.
Four Digital Platforms Have Complied with The Regulation
Meanwhile, Komdigi stated that as of March 28, 2026, only four platforms had cooperatively conveyed their commitment to the government in implementing PP TUNAS.
These platforms include X and Bigolive, while Roblox and TikTok have also announced their commitments but are gradually implementing the regulation in their platforms.
Minister of Komdigi, Meutya Hafid, stated that there is no distinction between any business entity operating in Indonesia. Therefore, every platform already required to comply with these regulations must implement them immediately.
"I reiterate that the government has the authority to take action based on the laws and regulations issued by the Indonesian government. Any business entity operating in Indonesia is obliged to comply," Meutya emphasized.
Conclusion
Meta Platforms stated that it continues discussions with the government regarding the implementation of PP TUNAS and its derivatives in the company’s platforms, Facebook ad INstagram. Meta said that Teen Accounts on Instagram and Facebook were launched after the regulation was passed in 2025. Meutya Hafid emphasized that all digital platforms are required to comply with the regulations without exception, although only a few, such as X, Bigo Live, Roblox, and TikTok, have expressed their commitment.
