Mapping Southeast Asia’s Data Center Landscape in 2026

8 hours ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - The distribution of data centers across Southeast Asia highlights a strong upward trajectory in digital infrastructure development in 2026. Indonesia leads the region with 184 facilities, followed by Malaysia and Singapore. This growth reflects the rapid expansion of the digital economy, increasing internet penetration, and rising demand for cloud-based services across the region.

The surge is also driven by accelerating enterprise digital transformation, the adoption of artificial intelligence, and the growing need for low-latency infrastructure to support emerging technologies such as IoT and edge computing. Governments and private sector players alike are actively investing in data center ecosystems to strengthen national competitiveness and attract global technology providers.

Capacity and Quality Still Define Regional Leadership

However, the number of facilities alone does not fully represent the actual capacity, performance, or sophistication of data center services in each country. For instance, Singapore continues to maintain a leading position in terms of total capacity, advanced infrastructure, and its strategic role as a regional data hub, despite having fewer facilities compared to Indonesia.

Additionally, variations in data collection methodologies, classification standards, and update cycles may influence the reported figures. As a result, a more comprehensive assessment of the region’s data center landscape should consider not only the number of facilities, but also factors such as power capacity, connectivity, sustainability standards, and technological readiness.

Conclusion

While Southeast Asia is experiencing rapid expansion in data center infrastructure, the true measure of leadership lies beyond the number of facilities. Capacity, technological sophistication, and strategic positioning will ultimately determine which countries lead the region’s digital future, with Singapore maintaining its edge and Indonesia emerging as a fast-growing contender.
