LG CNS Invests in Dexmate and Expands Its Robotics Portfolio

2 months ago | Robot Industrial & Automation

Jakarta, INTI - LG CNS invests in a robotics company in the US, Dexmate, to strengthen its hardware capability for industrial humanoid robots. Through LG Group’s corporate venture capital arm, LG Technology Ventures, LG CNS became the first Korean company to invest in Dexmate.

Dexmate is based in Silicon Valley and specializes in building high-performance humanoid robots, which have been claimed as standard research hardware by global artificial intelligence (AI) developers.

Dexmate’s robots are designed for human-like motion. Each of them has wheels on the lower body, two arms for high-speed operations, and a head equipped with a visual sensor to detect its surroundings. With over 36 independent axes of motion, the robots can perform precise two-arm cooperative tasks, carry up to 15 kilograms per arm, and operate for over 20 hours on a single charge.

“This investment is LG CNS’ strategic step to tightly integrate robotic hardware, robotics foundation model (RFM), and platforms to enable large-scale robot operations and accelerate adoption across industrial sites,” said Lee Jun-ho, head of LG CNS smart logistics and city business unit. “We aim to validate the humanoid robot business model that goes beyond technology testing to real-world deployment and lead the era of physical AI.”

LG CNS Robotics Portfolio and Projects

Through this investment, LG CNS expands its robotics hardware portfolio, which already has bipedal and quadruped robots. The company plans to utilize its robots to deliver robotics deployment services and humanoid commercialization.

Currently, LG CNS is also developing its own robot training and operating platform and expanding its partnership and investment in the robotics sector. One is with the collaboration with robotics AI developer in the US, Skild AI, to develop industry-specific RFMs.

Additionally, the company is conducting multiple projects where it trains robots to utilize logistics, retail, and manufacturing data, and perform real-world tasks, such as sorting items, inspecting ship components, and monitoring product quality.

Conclusion

LG CNS's investment in Dexmate aims to strengthen the company’s development of industrial humanoid robots. This move also demonstrates the company's efforts to accelerate the adoption of robots on an industrial scale through various pilot projects in the logistics, retail, and manufacturing sectors.
