Inside Jakarta’s Rp1 Trillion Data Center Powering Digital Growth

11 hours ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - Amid rising demand for data and computing power, Equinix has developed the JK1 facility in West Kuningan, South Jakarta, in partnership with Astra International.

The facility is part of Equinix’s International Business Exchange (IBX) expansion in Indonesia, with a total projected investment of approximately USD 74 million (around IDR 1.2 trillion).

In terms of design, JK1 is an eight-story facility with a full capacity of up to 1,600 server racks and 5,300 square meters of colocation space. However, its implementation is being carried out in phases.

In the initial phase, the data center provides 550 cabinets and two data halls with a power capacity of 2.4 MW, reflecting a build-as-you-scale approach commonly used in modern data center development.

AI-Ready Design Approach

From the outset, JK1 was not only designed to support conventional computing needs, but also high-performance computing workloads, including AI-based applications.

In terms of efficiency, the facility targets a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.41 at full load, while adhering to the ASHRAE A1A standard. The use of technologies such as a Cooling Array highlights that thermal management is a critical part of the design, particularly to ensure performance stability under high workloads.

Reliability as a Core Priority

In data center operations, reliability is not just an added value but a fundamental requirement. JK1 targets an uptime of 99.9999%, achieved through a layered system approach.

Its supporting infrastructure includes Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and four backup generators with a capacity of 2,000 kVA, ensuring operational continuity even under critical conditions.

Interconnection as Core Value

Beyond capacity and infrastructure, JK1’s key strength lies in its interconnection capabilities. Its strategic location near major internet exchange points enables highly efficient connectivity to multiple networks.

Through services such as Equinix Fabric, enterprises can connect to Equinix’s global ecosystem quickly and flexibly. This is further supported by Equinix Internet Access and Internet Exchange services.

JK1 also provides access to more than 50 cloud and network service providers, including Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. This enables companies to build hybrid and multi-cloud architectures within a fully integrated ecosystem.

Conclusion

JK1 marks a significant step in strengthening Indonesia’s digital infrastructure, combining AI-ready design, high reliability, and advanced interconnection capabilities. With its scalable architecture and access to global cloud ecosystems, the facility positions Jakarta as a key hub in the region’s data center and cloud computing landscape, supporting the future growth of AI and digital transformation.
