Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation, is strengthening efforts to develop digital talent through the ASEAN AI Ready Program.

The initiative aims to expand public access to Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills while preparing a workforce capable of competing in the rapidly evolving digital landscape across the ASEAN region.

ASEAN Strengthens Collaboration to Advance AI Talent Development

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria emphasized that AI proficiency will be a key determinant of national competitiveness in the future.

Therefore, ASEAN member states must foster closer collaboration to accelerate digital talent development and promote the inclusive adoption of AI technologies.

“The signing of the MoU between the ASEAN Foundation and Komdigi’s Human Resources Development Agency marks an important step in strengthening regional cooperation to advance AI adoption. ASEAN countries face similar challenges, particularly in AI research development and the enhancement of digital talent capabilities,” said Nezar during the MoU Signing Ceremony between the ASEAN Foundation and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs in Central Jakarta on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

According to Nezar, ASEAN is not only connected geographically and politically but also represents a dynamic digital ecosystem with significant opportunities for collective growth.

Through the ASEAN AI Ready Program, member states can exchange experiences, knowledge, and best practices in the application of AI technologies.

“The program’s primary focus is to build a digital workforce that is prepared for technological transformation. Through regional collaboration, we can accelerate capacity building while strengthening ASEAN’s competitiveness in the global digital economy,” he said.

Nezar reaffirmed that digital talent development remains one of Komdigi’s key priorities.

The government aims to ensure that people are not merely technology users but are also capable of creating AI-driven innovations and solutions that deliver tangible benefits to society.

This commitment is already yielding results.

One example is the achievement of students from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), who won the AI Ready ASEAN Youth Challenge by developing NOAH AI, an artificial intelligence-based application designed to support disaster management efforts.

AI Ready ASEAN Reaches Millions of Indonesians

Meanwhile, ASEAN Foundation Executive Director Piti Srisangnam stated that the AI Ready ASEAN program has reached more than 5.3 million people across Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua.

The initiative has now entered its second phase, which will continue through 2028.

“We will continue empowering Indonesians to be ready for digital transformation and to unlock the vast potential offered by AI technologies,” said Piti.

Through this collaboration, Indonesia is expected to further strengthen its role as one of ASEAN’s leading hubs for digital talent development while expanding the benefits of AI across communities, educational institutions, businesses, and the public sector.

Conclusion

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and economies worldwide, initiatives such as ASEAN AI Ready play a crucial role in preparing future-ready talent across the region. Through stronger regional collaboration, expanded access to AI education, and continuous capacity-building efforts, Indonesia is well-positioned to strengthen its leadership in digital talent development while contributing to a more competitive and inclusive ASEAN digital economy.
