Jakarta, INTI – Indonesia’s efforts to address the growing demand for clean energy, waste management, and digital infrastructure were further reinforced through a bilateral meeting between Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM and CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei. The meeting, held at The Langham, Jakarta, on Wednesday, November,19, 2025, served as a strategic platform for the government to offer comprehensive investment opportunities, ranging from renewable energy development to modern data center construction essential for supporting Indonesia’s digital economy. Against the backdrop of rapidly evolving industrial challenges, this collaboration is expected to become an important milestone in strengthening the country’s future infrastructure.
UAE Encouraged to Increase Strategic Investments
During the meeting, Rosan Roeslani, accompanied by Danantara’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Pandu Sjahrir, discussed potential areas for expanding UAE investments in Indonesia. Rosan emphasized that the UAE has already contributed to key national projects, including the 145 MW Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in West Java, which has become one of Indonesia’s renewable energy landmarks.
Rosan also offered new investment opportunities in the alumina sector, waste-to-energy technology, and collaboration on data center development, which plays a vital role in Indonesia’s national digital transformation.
Waste-to-Energy and Data Centers Become Key Discussion Points
Rosan explained that the government is preparing the next phase of waste-to-energy projects following the launch of the initial seven projects. The UAE’s interest in this area is considered substantial, as these projects provide essential solutions to the country’s waste crisis while producing alternative energy.
“We are offering cooperation in waste management. After the first seven projects, there will be additional launches, and they have expressed interest in participating. Additionally, we discussed potential joint investments in the data center sector,” Rosan said.
The data center sector continues to gain importance as the need for data storage infrastructure and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) increase across various industries.
UAE Ready to Collaborate on Port Development
Beyond energy and digital infrastructure, port development was also part of the discussion agenda. The UAE is well-known for its strong track record in developing international port infrastructure. Rosan revealed that the UAE has shown significant interest in collaborating with Danantara to develop and manage ports, both in Indonesia and in other countries.
UAE Sees Indonesia as a Strong Potential Hub for Data Centers
UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, stated that Indonesia has enormous potential in human resources and technological advancement. He emphasized that data centers are among the most critical infrastructures to support future manufacturing, education, healthcare, and AI-driven industries.
“Data centers are very important, especially for the younger generation who heavily rely on data and AI. Indonesia has tremendous potential in smart and innovative human resources,” he said.
Suhail added that UAE companies are exploring investment opportunities across various sectors, including aluminum, energy, interconnection, and electricity grids.
Conclusion
The bilateral meeting between Indonesia and the UAE opens wider opportunities for investment cooperation, particularly in energy, waste management, digital infrastructure, and port development. This collaboration is expected to become a strategic step in strengthening national industrial resilience and economic growth while accelerating Indonesia’s transition toward a more modern, sustainable, and technology-driven future.
