Jakarta, INTI – In an exclusive interview with INTI Media at INTI Expo 2025, JIExpo Kemayoran Jakarta, Chief of Data Center and Indonesia Internet Exchanges at APJII, Firdhyan Adhie Lesmana, emphasized the importance of collaboration among industry players, government, and digital service providers to reinforce the independence of national digital infrastructure. He stated that through cooperation among data centers across regions, APJII promotes an equitable internet ecosystem and enhances Indonesia’s digital competitiveness.
National Data Center Collaboration
Firdhyan explained that APJII has established partnerships with around 25–30 data centers in Indonesia to strengthen digital sovereignty. “We encourage industry players to utilize local data centers so that the national digital ecosystem becomes stronger,” Firdhyan said.
This program also includes expanding the Indonesia Internet Expo and Summit (IIXS) at partner data centers to reduce reliance on foreign infrastructure.
Equitable Digital Infrastructure
Firdhyan discussed that the main challenges in distributing data centers outside Java are geographical conditions and electricity stability. APJII promotes the development of mini data centers through collaboration with Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
“Several data centers are now operating in Surabaya, Bali, and Makassar, marking a positive step toward digital equity,” he explained.
Towards National Digital Independence
Through the Nusantara IIX program, APJII expands the Internet Exchange network across various regions. This initiative strengthens national connectivity efficiency and reduces reliance on foreign infrastructure.
“With Nusantara IIX, citizens’ data no longer need to be stored abroad,” Firdhyan emphasized.
Conclusion
APJII’s efforts to strengthen the data center ecosystem and expand the IIX network represent a strategic step toward national data sovereignty and digital independence. Through cross-sector collaboration and equitable infrastructure development, Indonesia is expected to optimize domestic data potential to support sustainable digital transformation and global competitiveness.
