PTI UMS Strengthens Digital Skills in the AI Era Through Collaboration with Ubuntu Indonesia and Sivali Cloud Technology

Jakarta, INTI - The Informatics Engineering Education Study Program (PTI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has initiated discussions on potential collaboration with Ubuntu Indonesia through PT Sivali Cloud Technology, Canonical’s official distributor for the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting was held at the Directorate of Research, Cooperation, and International Affairs (DRKUI) UMS.

PTI UMS was represented by its Program Secretary, Arif Setiawan, S.Kom., M.Eng. Meanwhile, PT Sivali Cloud Technology was represented by Ryo Ardian, Veros Muhamed, and CEO and Founder Wong Sui Jan. Eka Indarto, S.T., M.Eng., representing the Indonesian Open Source Community, also attended the meeting.

Arif Setiawan said the meeting marked an initial step toward building stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and the open-source community to enhance students’ and lecturers’ digital technology competencies.

Several potential areas of collaboration were discussed, including the introduction of the Sahabat Ubuntu Indonesia community, training programs through Canonical Academy, and opportunities to obtain internationally recognized Ubuntu certifications.

Building AI-Ready Talent 

Beyond strengthening expertise in Ubuntu-based operating systems and cloud computing, the discussion also highlighted the growing need for digital talent with competencies in artificial intelligence (AI). The rapid development of AI requires a strong, secure, and open computing ecosystem.

In this context, the proposed collaboration could extend beyond Linux and cloud computing to include training programs, workshops, and curriculum development supporting AI, machine learning, and related technologies.

Arif said the collaboration could provide students with learning experiences that are more closely aligned with industry needs. Open-source technologies could also give students opportunities to develop technical skills while contributing to the global technology ecosystem.

He added that the initiative supports PTI UMS’s commitment to preparing graduates with both pedagogical and technical competencies that keep pace with technological developments.

Mastering open-source technology, cloud computing, and AI is becoming an increasingly valuable combination of skills across both the industry and education sectors.

Revitalizing the Open-Source Community 

The meeting also highlighted the importance of revitalizing the open-source community within UMS. The community is expected to serve as a platform for students to develop their interests, share knowledge, collaborate, and participate in open-source projects.

Meanwhile, Sivali Cloud Technology introduced several initiatives with Canonical aimed at supporting digital transformation across organizations and educational institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. As an official Canonical distributor, Sivali Cloud Technology focuses on Ubuntu-based technologies, including security services, technical support, training, and certification.

PTI UMS hopes the initial discussions can be followed up through various capacity-building programs, seminars, workshops, international certification programs, and community activities.

The discussion, held on August 18, 2026, is expected to strengthen an adaptive learning ecosystem at PTI UMS while supporting the development of Indonesia’s digital talent and accelerating digital transformation in the education sector.

The collaboration between PTI UMS, Ubuntu Indonesia, and Sivali Cloud Technology highlights the growing importance of combining open-source technology, cloud computing, and AI skills in preparing future digital talent.
