Indonesia and India Strengthen Strategic Digital Partnership on the Sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi

2 days ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia and India have strengthened their cooperation across various digital sectors through a bilateral meeting between Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria and India’s Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, S. Krishnan, on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi, India.

Nezar emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two countries in addressing the challenges and opportunities emerging in the rapidly evolving digital era.

“This strategic partnership will serve as a strong foundation for both countries to jointly shape a brighter digital future for Asia, where technology becomes a driving force for equality and inclusive growth,” he stated.

The meeting discussed five key areas of cooperation, reflecting a shared vision to leverage digital technology for the public good.

Focus on AI, Digital Infrastructure, and Semiconductors

The first area of cooperation centers on the development of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

Indonesia expressed its interest in adopting India’s approach to democratizing AI to ensure that access to technology is not controlled by a limited group, but instead made accessible to startups and the broader public.

The collaboration is also aimed at developing sovereign AI that is culturally relevant, secure, safeguards national data interests, and aligns with domestic regulations.

Both countries are exploring cooperation in the development of digital public infrastructure, including the potential adaption of India’s Aadhaar model to enhance transparency and efficiency in public services through Digital Identity.

GovTech initiatives to strengthen coordination among government institutions through integrated digital platforms were also part of the discussion.

An exchange of expertise will take place involving the e-Sanjeevani platform for telemedicine services and BISAG-N for geospatial mapping to support logistics and infrastructure planning.

In the chip design and semiconductor supply chain sector, Indonesia’s mineral resource potential is seen as complementary to India’s upstream semiconductor mission.

India has offered support through what it describes as the world’s largest chip design facilities, which currently assist more than 300 academic institutions and 100 startups.

This support opens opportunities for Indonesia to access and share chip design infrastructure.

Strengthening Cybersecurity and Digital Talent Exchange

The partnership also covers cybersecurity and emergency response cooperation through the establishment of an information-sharing channel between CERT-In and relevant institutions in Indonesia.

The coordination aims to enable rapid and integrated detection and mitigation of cross-border cyber threats.

The two countries are also exploring the adaptation of India’s Emergency Response Support System, which integrates medical services, police, and roadside assistance within a unified technology platform.

In the area of capacity building, both sides will leverage the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology for training programs and digital literacy initiatives.

Startup Tours programs and innovator exchanges will also be initiated, enabling Indonesian and Indian startups to explore each other’s markets and collaborate in the development of public-interest technologies.

Nezar expressed hope that the partnership would accelerate digital transformation in both countries.

He emphasized that the cooperation is expected to create new opportunities and ensure that the benefits of technologies are accessible to all segments of society.

Conclusion

The Indonesia–India digital partnership signals a strategic step toward building an inclusive, secure, and innovation-driven digital ecosystem. By aligning strengths in AI, infrastructure, semiconductors, cybersecurity, and talent development, both countries aim to accelerate transformation and deliver tangible public benefits.
