Jakarta, INTI – Tools for Humanity (TFH), a technology company co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has officially launched the "Proof of Human" technology in Indonesia. This technology is designed to differentiate real human identities from artificial intelligence (AI) in a secure and anonymous manner, without requiring users' personal data.
Advancing Digital Security Through Verified Identity
This launch is part of TFH's expansion through the "World" platform, an identity verification system that does not store sensitive information such as names, addresses, or National Identification Numbers (NIK). Thus, "World" provides an innovative digital security solution while safeguarding user privacy.
The "Proof of Human" technology utilizes a hardware device called Orb, which leverages AI neural networks to verify identities through iris scans. The resulting data is then converted into a unique code that cannot be forged. This approach allows users to prove their authenticity without compromising their privacy.
"World is a system that ensures we are truly human in the digital world, without having to share personal information," said Wafa Taftazani, General Manager of Tools for Humanity Indonesia, during the launch event in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Supporting Indonesia's Digital Security
In recent years, Indonesia has experienced a surge in AI-based fraud, identity theft, and deepfake incidents. Therefore, the presence of Proof of Human technology is expected to strengthen digital security and support the country's digital economic transformation.
"The Indonesian government has set a grand vision for cybersecurity and digital transformation. The presence of the World can help realize this vision by creating a safer and more inclusive digital ecosystem," said Wafa Taftazani.
Collaboration with Various Stakeholders
As part of its commitment to Indonesia, TFH has partnered with various institutions, including the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), for a national-scale AI essay competition. Additionally, TFH is in discussions with the Presidential Communication Office to align this verification system with Indonesia's digital security strategy.
The Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, also welcomed this initiative. He emphasized the importance of a more accurate and integrated digital identity system to reduce cases of duplicate ID cards and improve public service efficiency.
Expansion to Indonesia and Other Countries
After successfully being implemented in over 20 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines, "World" has now arrived in Indonesia. This technology is expected to be an innovative solution for enhancing digital security and supporting a more inclusive and responsible AI-driven economy.
The Future of Digital Security with Proof of Human
Moving forward, Tools for Humanity plans to further expand the "Proof of Human" technology across various sectors, including government, finance, and public services. With a privacy- and security-centric approach, this technology could become the new standard for digital verification systems.
Conclusion
The launch of "Proof of Human" in Indonesia marks a significant step towards a more inclusive and secure digital identity system. With technology that can distinguish real humans from AI without sacrificing privacy, TFH contributes to building a more trustworthy digital ecosystem. Government and stakeholder support will further strengthen the implementation of this technology, positioning Indonesia as a pioneer in AI-based digital security in the region.
With Proof of Human, Indonesia is one step ahead in tackling future digital challenges while maintaining its citizens' privacy and security.
