China Dominates Humanoid Robot Global Market with Nearly 90% Domestic Production

1 month ago | Robot Industrial & Automation

Jakarta, INTI - Thousands of Chinese-made humanoid robots have spread to various countries. Shanghai-based robotics company, Agibot, revealed that it has shipped 5,000 humanoid robots in the past three months.

Previously, it took the company two years to distribute the first 1,000 units, then another year to reach the total of 5,000 units. Now, the same number can be achieved much faster, indicating a significant surge in their production capacity.

Agibot's Chief Technology Officer, Peng Zhihui, attributed this achievement to a better supply chain and more standardized manufacturing processes. He stated that the focus has now shifted from simply proving the technology’s ability to creating commercially scalable value and driving the adoption of embodied artificial intelligence (AI).

Agibot’s Robots are Used in Other Countries

According to independent research in January, Agibot led the global humanoid robot market with shipments of nearly 5,200 units, surpassing competitors like Unitree’s 4,200 units. Meanwhile, US companies such as Figure, Agility Robotics, and Tesla have each shipped around 150 units.

China's dominance is also evident in global production, where nearly 90% of the world's humanoid robots are produced in the country. Agibot's increased production is expected to further strengthen the number. Agibot robots are now being used in various regions, including Europe, North America, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The company has also noted a shift from the pilot phase to large-scale, iterative implementation.

Even so, the humanoid robot market is still in its early steps. Several major players, such as Boston Dynamics, Apptronik, and Agility Robotics, have chosen to delay mass production to ensure long-term technological readiness. However, this strategy carries risks. Delaying production could open the door for faster-moving competitors to dominate the market. On the other hand, large-scale production allows for a faster and more sustainable learning process.

Conclusion

Chinese robotics company Agibot has shipped 5,000 humanoid robots in just three months, driven by a better supply chain and increasingly efficient manufacturing. It also signals a shift to mass production and commercial adoption. China now controls about 90% of global production, with Agibot leading competitors like Unitree and US companies like Tesla and Agility Robotics.
