Jakarta, INTI – In an exclusive interview conducted directly by the INTI Media team on March 20, 2025, Muhammad Arif Angga shared his insights on the evolution of Indonesia’s internet industry, reflecting on his extensive experience over the past 17 years. As a key figure in technological advancement, he has played a crucial role in expanding internet access, improving infrastructure, and driving digital innovation across the nation.
Mr. Arif began his career after graduating from Bina Nusantara University in 2008. He immediately entered the industry, working at an application service provider (ASP) company in Jakarta for seven years. In 2015, he briefly moved to another company before deciding to establish his own business, Andalan Prima. Today, the company has been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange under the stock code INET, reflecting his success in developing technology-based businesses.
Beyond Andalan Prima, Mr. Arif has been involved in several major infrastructure projects, such as the development of the IPDN data center and a fiber optic factory in Tangerang. His success in the business world later led him to the organizational sphere, where he served as Chairman of the Indonesian Telecommunications Network Providers Association (APJATEL) from 2019 to 2021. With extensive experience in industry associations, he has consistently contributed to improving telecommunications quality in Indonesia, eventually earning the trust to lead APJII.
Mr. Arif highlighted the significant progress of Indonesia’s internet industry, driven by increasing digital adoption and growing demand for high-speed connectivity. However, to fully harness its potential, improvements in infrastructure quality and equitable access remain key priorities. While Indonesia continues to develop its digital ecosystem, there is still room for enhancement in internet quality compared to other ASEAN countries. Recognizing this, APJII is actively working with stakeholders to implement strategic initiatives that strengthen national internet competitiveness and ensure broader, more reliable access across the country.
APJII oversees more than 1,300 internet service providers (ISPs) in Indonesia, but most services are still concentrated in major cities. According to Mr. Arif, internet access should be a fundamental right for every citizen. Therefore, APJII strives to expand networks and improve internet service quality to ensure more equitable access across Indonesia.
As APJII Chairman, Mr. Arif not only focuses on infrastructure development but also on competitiveness and the security of the digital ecosystem. One of his key initiatives is the Indonesia Internet Exchange (IIX), a hub that enables more efficient internet traffic management within Indonesia. By expanding IIX, reliance on international traffic can be reduced, improving network quality while lowering ISP operational costs.
Additionally, APJII places significant emphasis on cybersecurity. As the number of internet users grows, cybersecurity threats increase as well. To address this, APJII collaborates with the government and ISPs to enforce stricter digital security standards.
Furthermore, Mr. Arif actively promotes digital literacy in society. APJII regularly conducts training programs and partners with various NGOs and universities to enhance public awareness of safe and responsible internet usage.
Under Mr. Arif’s leadership, APJII continues to evolve into an organization that not only serves as a platform for internet service providers but also acts as a driving force for digital innovation in Indonesia. With a strong vision and strategic programs, he aims to elevate Indonesia’s internet industry to a higher level in terms of quality, security, and equitable access.
Mr. Arif’s career journey is a testament to how experience, vision, and strong leadership can bring significant changes to the digital industry. Through his role at APJII, he consistently works to build a more equitable, secure, and high-quality internet infrastructure. The future of Indonesia’s internet industry lies in the hands of innovators like him, who are tirelessly striving to make connectivity an integral part of Indonesian society. With unwavering commitment, Mr. Arif is poised to lead the national internet industry toward a more advanced and inclusive digital era.
