XL Speeds Up 5G Network Transformation with 5G-Advanced Technology

2 months ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI - PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (EXCL) speeds up 5G network transformation in Indonesia through the implementation of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) Intelligent Core Network technology, which is claimed to be more energy efficient and capable of supporting data traffic growth.

This technology is part of the company's strategy to improve the quality of network services amid the expansion of the XL Ultra 5G+ network in various regions.

The company combined a cloud-native core network architecture with artificial intelligence (AI). This approach enables the automation of network operations and increases operational efficiency.

5G-Advanced Advantages: Energy Savings and User Experience

One of its advantages is energy savings in core and radio infrastructure, while maintaining a quality user experience.

The implementation of this technology also supports the expansion of XL Ultra 5G+ services, which uses blanket coverage concept in 33 cities and regencies in Indonesia.

With broader coverage, the company aims to provide a more consistent connectivity experience for customers.

Technically, XLSMART has recorded several efficiency improvements from the implementation of 5G-A technology.

The Green 5G Core feature is said to be able to increase energy efficiency throughout the network lifecycle by up to 20 percent.

As for the Intelligent Paging feature, it is claimed to optimize radio access network (RAN) load by more than 10%.

5G Development is A Part of the Company’s Post-Merger Integration

XLSMART Director and Chief Regulatory Officer, Merza Fachy, stated that the development of an intelligent core network and the expansion of Ultra 5G+ are part of the company's post-merger integration.

This step is aimed at strengthening the company's position in the data services market and improving the quality of the customer experience.

"This innovation is part of the post-merger integration to realize the company's vision of becoming the company most loved by customers, through superior service quality," Merza said.

He added that energy efficiency in 5G networks is a critical concern, given the increasing data consumption and cost pressures faced by operators, from infrastructure investment to spectrum costs.

The Green 5G Core approach and AIOps-based automation are also expected to reduce the company's carbon footprint and open up opportunities to reduce long-term operational costs by optimizing electricity usage at network sites and data centers.

In addition to providing services to retail customers who use XL, AXIS, and Smartfren, XLSMART's 5G network is also designed to support the needs of the corporate and industrial sectors.

With bigger network capacity and low latency, this technology is prepared to support various use cases such as industrial automation, smart city development, sensor-based services, digital tourism, and high-bandwidth content-based creative economy.
