Jakarta, INTI - Digital platform X has set the minimum age for users in Indonesia to 16 years old as part of its adjustment to Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) stated that this change is an important step by global digital platforms to fulfill national regulatory obligations while simultaneously improving child protection in the digital space.

Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, stated that the government appreciates X's decision.

"We appreciate the real actions taken by X as a form of commitment to compliance while ensuring the protection of children in the digital space," said Alexander in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

In a letter dated March 17, 2026, X commits to comply with the implementation of PP TUNAS, which specifically regulates high-risk networking and social media services, so that they are only permitted for children aged 16 and above.

Alexander stated that X has stated the age-limit change on its Help Center page specified for Indonesia.

Furthermore, starting March 27, 2026, X stated that it will implement its plan to identify and deactivate user accounts that do not meet the applicable minimum age requirements.

Komdigi Waits for Other Digital Platforms to Also Comply

"The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will periodically monitor the progress of this process to ensure compliance with the PP TUNAS regulations," stated Alexander.

Komdigi emphasizes that other electronic system providers (PSE) that have received letter from the Ministry must immediately provide an official response and take concrete steps, as has been and will be done by X.

"Active and on-time compliance from all PSE is a crucial factor in creating a safe digital ecosystem for children," said Alexander.

The Ministry is waiting for other platforms to demonstrate their commitment to comply with Indonesian law.
