Indonesia’s Communications Ministry Partners with Journalists to Strengthen AI Literacy and Digital Security

30 minutes ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has opened opportunities for collaboration with Bandung Legal Journalists (Jurnalis Hukum Bandung/JHB) and the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) in West Java to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and raise public awareness of digital crimes.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said journalists’ initiatives to expand digital safety education align with the growing need to help the public navigate an increasingly technology-driven environment.

While connectivity continues to expand, the digital landscape also faces growing threats from cybercrime and online fraud.

“The Bandung Digital Safety Forum is an excellent initiative by journalists in West Java to share information on how people can safely use and navigate the digital landscape,” Nezar said during a meeting with JHB and PWI West Java representatives at the ministry’s office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Nezar explained that strengthening digital security requires contributions from multiple stakeholders.

The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) is responsible for cybersecurity, while Komdigi oversees digital infrastructure governance, the monitoring of harmful online content, and efforts to improve public digital literacy.

Through its Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), the ministry also provides digital training and skills development programs.

Nezar confirmed that Komdigi is open to participating in initiatives organized by JHB and PWI West Java, including programs designed to strengthen digital literacy.

“Komdigi is ready to participate in strengthening digital literacy so that available connectivity can be used for positive purposes. Our BPSDM team also provides training, skills development, upskilling, and reskilling for digital talent,” he said.

Komdigi Expands Digital Literacy Through Community Programs

Director of Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology Ecosystems Said Mirza Pahlevi explained that Komdigi operates a Digital Literacy Development Center under BPSDM to educate the public about digital technology.

One of its initiatives is Pandu Digital, a program that deploys trained personnel to engage directly with communities and provide digital literacy education.

The program serves as a channel for teaching people how to use technology responsibly.

“Pandu Digital personnel go directly into communities to provide digital literacy education. We recruit people specifically to carry out these activities,” Said Mirza explained.

In addition to Pandu Digital, Komdigi offers the Digital Talent Scholarship platform, which is accessible to the wider public.

The platform features short educational videos covering various aspects of digital literacy, including AI literacy, to help people better understand how to navigate and use digital technologies.

Said Mirza welcomed opportunities to collaborate with journalists to broaden the reach of these educational initiatives.

AI Literacy Essential to Counter Misinformation and Digital Risks

Said Mirza emphasized that the growing misuse of AI makes stronger AI literacy increasingly important. The public needs to understand how to use the technology effectively while recognizing potential risks and verifying the accuracy of information they encounter.

He also stressed the importance of understanding AI’s limitations, noting that AI-generated outputs are not always accurate and should be checked before being trusted or shared.

Irresponsible AI use can also contribute to hoaxes and the spread of misleading information.

“Users need to understand that AI outputs are not always correct. They must double-check,” Said Mirza said.

He added that Komdigi has prepared a white paper outlining Indonesia’s AI Roadmap through 2029, which is currently being processed for conversion into a presidential regulation.

The government is also preparing regulations on AI ethics to encourage the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence.

Conclusion

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is strengthening AI literacy and digital safety through collaboration with journalists and community education programs. By expanding public understanding of AI limitations, cybersecurity risks, and information verification, the initiative aims to promote responsible technology use and combat online misinformation. The government is also advancing its AI roadmap and ethical regulations to support the responsible development of artificial intelligence.
