Jakarta, INTI - TikTok gave its response following Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) regulation on restricting the age of social media users. The platform revealed that it had restricted access with various features.
Komdigi plans to start deactivating accounts owned by children under the age of 16, starting March 28, 2026. The deactivation includes accounts in high-risk digital platforms, such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
TikTok stated that it was currently in coordination with Komdigi to further understand the regulation, and it was committed to working together with the Indonesian government to ensure children and teens can safely access online platforms.
“Accounts owned by teens have more than 50 security, privacy, and safety features that are automatically activated to help them safely express their creativity, connect with friends, and learn on the platform,” said a spokesperson from TikTok to Bisnis on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Previously, Komdigi had issued Ministerial Regulation (Permen) No. 9 of 2026, a derivative of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP TUNAS) on March 6.
Minister of Komdigi, Meutya Hafid, revealed that through this regulation, the government will block account access for children under the age of 16 on high-risk digital platforms. Hafid added that this process will be carried out in stages until all platforms have fulfilled their compliance obligations.
