Jakarta, INTI – The rapid pace of digital transformation has made the risks of artificial intelligence (AI) technology increasingly urgent to regulate properly. The government believes that the use of AI cannot solely pursue innovation, but must remain aligned with human values. This was emphasized on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The government is promoting a human-centric governance approach as the foundation of AI policy in the country. This approach is intended to ensure that technological development remains safe, transparent, and responsible. In other words, humans must maintain full control over AI as a tool not the other way around.
Human-Centric Becomes the Foundation of National AI Policy
Wijaya Kusumawardhana, Expert Staff to the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, stressed that AI governance must ensure that humans remain the main subject and object in every development and utilization process. According to him, the government understands that behind the vast opportunities, the use of AI still contains risks that must prioritize public safety.
Through this perspective, the government wants AI implementation to remain balanced between innovation, ethics, and social responsibility.
AI Can Write Well, But Still Has the Potential to Mislead
Dahlan Dahi, Chairman of the Digital & Sustainability Commission of the Press Council, stated that AI-generated content cannot be used directly as final news material without human verification. The better AI writes, the more convincing the potential errors may appear.
“AI can appear logical, but it is not always correct. That is why check and re-check processes by humans remain mandatory,” he emphasized.
National AI Regulations Are in the Finalization Stage
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria previously confirmed that national AI regulations are almost completed and will be formalized through a Presidential Regulation. Within the roadmap, the government has also included specific provisions regarding safety and security in the development and use of AI.
The government targets this regulation to be finalized and issued this year, so that the direction of AI utilization in Indonesia will have a clear legal foundation.
Conclusion:
The government underscores that AI technology must not stray from human values. The forthcoming regulation is expected to become a solid safeguard for public safety standards, while guiding AI innovation to grow healthily and be beneficial for society.
