Jakarta, INTI - The availability of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, ranging from data centers to computing resources, is becoming a critical factor in supporting AI solution development in Indonesia. Local infrastructure enables businesses to deploy AI technologies, including AI agents, according to their operational requirements and data governance regulations.
Radityo Pradana, a Solution Architect at Alibaba, explained that developing AI agents requires three essential components: an AI model that serves as the brain, a harness that enables the AI to execute tasks, and infrastructure to support its operations. Together, these components allow AI systems to move beyond generating responses and perform a variety of tasks.
“We have three data centers in Indonesia, where we can also deploy existing AI large language models (LLMs) using the GPU resources available in our Indonesian region,” Radityo said at the Peruri Digital Summit 2026 on October 22, 2026.
According to Radityo, domestic infrastructure is particularly important for industries subject to strict data management regulations. This requirement is closely linked to the concept of sovereign AI, which emphasizes control over AI development and deployment while considering data governance requirements, including data location.
AI Agents Expand Across Multiple Industries
AI agents are increasingly being adopted across various industries, including healthcare, retail, financial services, manufacturing, electric vehicles, and public services. Unlike conventional AI systems that primarily generate responses to user prompts, AI agents can execute specific tasks and carry out actions based on instructions.
Beyond AI models, computing infrastructure must be supported by systems that enable AI technologies to perform tasks in an integrated manner. Radityo explained that a harness equips AI models with the ability to access services and execute actions according to specified instructions.
At the same time, AI adoption requires safeguards to protect data and control system access. Radityo highlighted the use of guardrails and AI gateways to filter requests, restrict access to sensitive information, and monitor the activities of multiple AI agents.
These security mechanisms help businesses manage AI operations while reducing risks associated with unauthorized access and inappropriate data usage.
The availability of reliable infrastructure, effective data governance, and robust security systems will be essential for scaling AI adoption across businesses. With the right capabilities in place, AI agents can help organizations automate tasks, streamline workflows, and improve operational efficiency, strengthening Indonesia’s ability to capture opportunities in the growing digital economy.
Conclusion
Reliable AI infrastructure, including local data centers, GPU computing resources, and robust security systems, is essential to accelerating Indonesia’s digital economy. As AI agents expand across industries, investments in sovereign AI, data governance, and operational security will help businesses adopt AI more effectively, automate workflows, and improve productivity.
