Jakarta, INTI - PT PLN (Persero) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Indonesia's digital economy by providing a large-scale, reliable electricity supply for the country's growing data center industry. The state-owned utility will deliver up to 2×725 MVA of premium electricity service to Digital Edge Indonesia's data center facility in Cikarang, West Java.
The power supply supports the expansion of Digital Edge's CGK1 campus, which recently reached the topping-off stage. Once completed, the facility is expected to become one of Indonesia's largest data centers by power capacity, strengthening the nation's digital infrastructure.
The collaboration between PLN and Digital Edge Indonesia is considered a strategic step toward meeting the rapidly growing energy demand of data centers while supporting Indonesia's ambition to become one of Southeast Asia's leading digital economies.
Digital Edge Indonesia CEO Stephanus Oscar said a reliable power supply is essential for operating hyperscale data centers.
According to Oscar, the topping-off milestone reflects the company's confidence in Indonesia's digital future. He noted that large-scale electricity capacity provides the foundation for meeting the country's increasing demand for data processing and computing services.
"Together with PLN, we are not only building a data center but also laying the foundation for Indonesia to compete in the global AI economy. The CGK Campus is designed to grow alongside the nation's rising digital demands and ambitions," Oscar said.
Built to Support the AI Era
Digital Edge explained that the CGK data center campus is being developed not only to meet today's digital requirements but also to prepare for the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI), which is expected to significantly increase demand for digital infrastructure in the coming years.
PLN and Digital Edge first signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in October 2025 with an initial capacity of 2×650 MVA. As the data center expansion accelerated and the need for uninterrupted 24/7 operations increased, the capacity was upgraded to 2×725 MVA.
The additional capacity will be delivered in phases through 2030, making Digital Edge Indonesia PLN's largest power purchase agreement customer while operating one of the country's highest-capacity data center facilities.
Reliable Power Supports Indonesia’s Digital Economy
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the rapid growth of Indonesia's data center industry reflects the country's accelerating digital transformation. He emphasized that reliable electricity is essential to ensuring uninterrupted operations for mission-critical digital infrastructure.
PLN remains committed to providing dependable and sustainable power supplies that can support future expansion of Indonesia's digital ecosystem.
"The growth of the data center industry demonstrates the acceleration of Indonesia's digital transformation. PLN is ready to provide reliable and sustainable electricity to strengthen Indonesia's position as a regional digital economy hub," Darmawan said.
Meanwhile, PLN Commissioner Jisman Hutajulu projected that data centers will become one of the country's largest drivers of electricity demand as AI technologies, cloud computing, and digital services continue to expand.
To ensure uninterrupted operations, PLN has prepared dedicated electrical infrastructure, including a double-feeder system that maintains continuous power even if one transmission line experiences a disruption.
Jisman added that reliable and scalable electricity infrastructure is fundamental to attracting investments in data centers, cloud computing, and AI technologies that require continuous, high-capacity power.
"Reliable and scalable electricity is the foundation of the digital economy. PLN is ready to grow alongside Indonesia's expanding digital infrastructure and AI ecosystem," he concluded.
Conclusion
PLN's expanded premium electricity supply for Digital Edge's flagship data center reinforces Indonesia's digital infrastructure readiness, supporting the rapid growth of AI, cloud computing, and the nation's ambition to become a leading digital economy in Southeast Asia.
