Indonesia’s Internet is the Slowest in Southeast Asia and Below the Global Average

Jakarta, INTI - From We Are Social’s Digital 2025 Global Overview Report, internet connection speeds in Indonesia are reportedly still far below the global average. The average global mobile internet connection speed reaches 61.52 Mbps, while in Indonesia, it is only 29.06 Mbps.

The world’s number one in terms of internet speed is Japan. Japan holds the world record for the fastest internet speed in the world, reaching 402 million Mbps, or the equivalent of 402 terabits per second (Tbps). This figure far exceeds internet speeds in many countries, including Indonesia.

Internet Speeds in Other Countries

Indonesia crawls far behind other Southeast Asian countries, such as Thailand with 61.21 Mbps, and the Philippines with 35.56 Mbps. As for Malaysia, the country has an above-average internet speed of 104.99 Mbps.

The fastest average mobile internet connection speed is in the Middle Eastern country of the United Arab Emirates, with 441.89 Mbps.

Meanwhile, for fixed internet connection speeds, the global average is 95.10 Mbps. Again, Indonesia falls below that figure.

According to reports, fixed internet connection speeds in Indonesia are 32.05 Mbps. Meanwhile, the fastest average fixed internet connection speed is led by Indonesia's neighbor, Singapore, with 324.46 Mbps.

Conclusion 

According to We Are Social, Indonesia is lagging with its 29.06 Mbps internet connection speed compared to other Southeast Asian countries and the global average figure, 61.52 Mbps. Thailand has 61.21 Mbps internet speed, the Philippines has 35.56 Mbps, and Malaysia has 104.99 Mbps. As for Indonesia’s fixed internet connection speed, it is 32.05 Mbps, also below the global average of 95.10 Mbps.
