Jakarta, INTI - PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) signed an Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) with DevvStream Inc., as part of the development of clean energy solutions based on solar PV solutions. The agreement was signed by PLN IP President Director, Bernadus Sudarmanta, and DevvStream Corp. CEO, Sunny Trinh, in Jakarta.
The solar power plants developed under this collaboration are off-grid and self-consumption, thus not connected to the main electricity grid and remaining in line with applicable environmental and carbon market regulations.
Through this scheme, PLN IP will generate Verified Emission Reduction (VER) certificates from solar power plants projects in various locations across Indonesia, which will then be marketed through DevvStream, its global partner.
Opens Carbon Monetization Opportunity
Bernadus Sudarmanta emphasized that this step is part of the company's strategy to develop a new, more sustainable business model.
"The development of this off-grid solar PV solution is part of PLN Indonesia Power's innovation in providing clean energy solutions for operations while simultaneously opening up opportunities for carbon monetization. This is a concrete manifestation of our transformation into a more value-added, beyond-kWh business," said Bernadus.
PLN IP's beyond-kWh concept focuses not only on electricity sales but also encompasses integrated energy services, including the provision of renewable energy generation, carbon emissions management, and optimization of customer energy assets.
In its implementation, this off-grid solar PV project is designed to independently support customer energy needs, increase energy efficiency, and directly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions without disrupting the existing electricity system.
Sunny Trinh emphasized that this collaboration opens up significant opportunities for the development of renewable energy-based carbon projects from Indonesia.
"We see great potential in the off-grid Solar PV model developed by PLN Indonesia Power. This is an innovative approach that not only provides environmental benefits but also creates new economic value through the global carbon market," said Sunny.
In addition to supporting the national decarbonization agenda, this collaboration also emphasizes PT PLN Indonesia Power's role as a pioneer in developing customer-centric energy solutions in Indonesia.
Going forward, PLN IP will continue to expand the implementation of Solar PV solutions as part of its energy transition strategy, while simultaneously optimizing opportunities in the carbon market to create sustainable revenue sources.
Conclusion
PLN IP has partnered with DevvStream Inc. through the signing of an ERPA to develop off-grid Solar PV-based clean energy solutions while monetizing carbon emission reductions in the global market. Through the self-consumption solar power plant (PLTS) project, PLN IP will generate emission reduction certificates (VER) from various projects in Indonesia, which will then be marketed jointly with DevvStream. This collaboration is part of PLN IP's beyond kWh business transformation strategy. This project is also expected to open up sustainable revenue sources through the global carbon market.
