4 hours ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - PT PLN Energy Management Indonesia (PLN EMI) is strengthening its role as a strategic partner in the industrial sector through various decarbonization and energy efficiency solutions and green instruments that support the implementation of sustainable business.

CEO of PLN EMI, Henri Firdaus, stated that sustainability issues are no longer just a global trend but have become a necessity that must be addressed effectively by all business actors.

"Sustainability has become a key global agenda. Amid the challenges of climate change and limited resources, aligning business activities with international sustainability targets is crucial," said Henri at the PLN EMI Media Gathering in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Henri explained that PLN EMI has extensive experience supporting national energy efficiency by offering five main services, namely Decarbonization Strategy Solutions, Energy Conservation Solutions, Waste Circularity Solutions, Sustainable Consulting Solutions, and Environmental Compliance Solutions.

PLN EMI’s Renewable Energy Certificate

Henri noted that one of the green instruments widely utilized by customers is the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC). The certificate represents every 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of clean electricity generated by PLN's new and renewable energy plants and is recorded in a tracking system, ensuring transparency in green energy use.

"Of course, this green attribute will ultimately be used to support PLN's green energy development," said Henri.

PLN currently provides RECs from various renewable energy plants in Indonesia that collectively generate thousands of gigawatt-hours of green electricity annually:

  1. Ulubelu Geothermal Power Plant with a potential of 720 GWh per year
  2. Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant, 993 GWh per year
  3. Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant, 700 GWh per year
  4. Cirata Hydroelectric Power Plant
  5. Saguling Hydroelectric Power Plant
  6. Mrica Hydroelectric Power Plant
  7. Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant
  8. Lambur Mini Hydro Power Plant
  9. Ulumbu Mini Hydro Power Plant
  10. Orya Genyem Hydroelectric Power Plant

PLN EMI’s Emission Reduction Certificate

In addition to RECs, PLN EMI is also developing Emission Reduction Certificates (SPE) as a national carbon trading instrument. This certificate proves that a company has successfully reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1 ton of CO₂e, verified with a thorough verification process and is recorded in the National Registry System (SRN).

Henri revealed that PLN EMI has supported various strategic projects that have resulted in SPEs:

  1. Operation of the Sumbagut 2 Peaker 250 MW Gas-Powered Plant (PLTMG Sumbagut 2)
  2. Conversion of the Muara Tawar Unit 2 power plant to a combined cycle
  3. Construction of the Muara Karang Block 3 Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTM)
  4. Operation of the Priok Block 4 Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTM Gunung Wugul)
  5. Conversion of the Grati Block 2 Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTM Grati) into a more efficient and low-emission power plant.

According to Henri, all solutions developed by PLN EMI aim to help businesses meet the demands of the energy transition while increasing their competitiveness in the global market, which increasingly emphasizes the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance principles.

Conclusion

PT PLN Energy Management Indonesia is strengthening its role as a strategic partner in the industrial sector by providing various decarbonization solutions, energy efficiency, and green instruments to support sustainable businesses. Henri Firdaus said that sustainability has become a necessity that must be responded to by the business world amidst the challenges of climate change and the demands of global sustainability targets. Aside from the 5 main services to help companies accelerate their business’ sustainability, PLN EMI offers the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) and Emission Reduction Certificate (SPE).
