Jakarta, INTI - PLN Batam and PT Altiva Identity Datacenter have signed a 2×345 MVA (690 MVA) Electricity Power Purchase Agreement (PJBTL) to support the development of a new data center in Nongsa, Batam.
The agreement marks a strategic milestone in strengthening Batam's digital economy ecosystem while supporting the development of a data center campus with a planned capacity of up to 700 MVA. Power supply is scheduled to be delivered in phases beginning in 2027.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Batam Mayor and BP Batam Head Amsakar Achmad, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Head of BP Batam Li Claudia Chandra, along with representatives from BP Batam, PLN Batam, and PT Altiva Identity Datacenter.
According to Amsakar, Altiva's decision to invest in Batam reflects growing investor confidence in the city's potential as a technology-driven investment destination.
He noted that Batam offers a strategic geographic location, strong accessibility, and close proximity to one of Asia's major economic centers, making it well-positioned for digital infrastructure development.
Amsakar added that the Batam City Government and BP Batam are committed to accelerating licensing procedures and providing cross-sector support to facilitate investment projects. He emphasized that once PLN Batam has secured the required electricity infrastructure, the government is prepared to streamline all necessary approvals to ensure smooth project implementation.
He also highlighted that the increasing flow of digital sector investments throughout 2026 and 2027 presents a significant opportunity, as more global technology companies and large-scale data center operators continue choosing Batam as their preferred investment destination.
Reliable Power Infrastructure Supports Data Center Growth
PLN Batam President Director Kwin Fo stated that the agreement demonstrates investor confidence in Batam's reliable power infrastructure.
Under the agreement, PLN Batam will provide a stable electricity supply to support the development of PT Altiva Identity Datacenter, strengthening the energy foundation required for Batam's expanding digital economy.
He emphasized that a dependable power supply is one of the most critical considerations for data center operators when selecting investment locations. To meet the growing demand from the digital industry, PLN Batam continues to strengthen its electricity infrastructure and power system.
PLN Batam has also established similar electricity supply partnerships with several other major data center investors operating in Batam.
Positioning Batam as a Regional Digital Hub
PT Altiva Identity Datacenter Director Edi Haryanto said the company aims not only to build a state-of-the-art data center facility but also to contribute to Batam's transformation into one of Indonesia's leading digital economy hubs.
He expressed confidence that collaboration among BP Batam, PLN Batam, government institutions, and industry stakeholders will further strengthen Batam's position as a key digital infrastructure center in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
The Altiva Data Center project is being developed on an approximately 11-hectare site in Nongsa, with future expansion planned to exceed 30 hectares.
Supported by PLN Batam's power infrastructure and Batam's strategic location near Singapore, the project is expected to strengthen Indonesia's digital ecosystem while enhancing Batam's attractiveness as a destination for technology and data center investment.
PLN Batam concluded that close collaboration between government agencies, BP Batam, investors, and infrastructure providers will be essential in establishing Batam as a competitive digital economy hub at both the regional and global levels.
