Indonesia's Data Center Market Surges as Greater Jakarta and Batam Emerge as Key Investment Hubs

9 hours ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia has emerged as one of the fastest-growing data center markets in Southeast Asia, driven by rapid digital transformation, increasing hyperscaler investments, and a robust pipeline of infrastructure projects.

According to research by Cushman & Wakefield, Indonesia currently has 468 megawatts (MW) of operational data center capacity, with an additional 1,957 MW expected to come online by 2030.

Strong Pipeline Supports Long-Term Growth

Pritesh Swamy, Head of Data Centre, Research & Advisory for Asia Pacific at Cushman & Wakefield, said Indonesia has one of the strongest data center growth prospects in the Asia-Pacific region due to its substantial development pipeline.

He added that the industry's long-term expansion is further supported by approximately 4.5 gigawatts (GW) of secured land bank capacity, providing a solid foundation for future data center developments.

Cloud, AI, and Hyperscalers Drive Demand

Swamy attributed Indonesia's rapid market growth to the increasing adoption of cloud services, accelerated digital transformation across industries, rising data consumption, and growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-density computing infrastructure.

The continued expansion of global hyperscalers and enterprise customers is also fueling sustained demand for advanced digital infrastructure, reinforcing Indonesia's position as a strategic data center market in the Asia-Pacific region.

Investment Activity Continues to Expand

The industry's strong momentum has been reflected in multiple investments and funding commitments announced during the first half of 2026.

Major industry players, including Princeton Digital Group (PDG), Digital Edge, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), DCI Indonesia, Racks Central, and Firmus Technologies, have announced new data center developments, financing initiatives, and expansion plans across strategic locations in Indonesia.

Greater Jakarta and Batam Lead Growth

According to Swamy, the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) region remains Indonesia's primary destination for hyperscale data center development and enterprise cloud investments.

Meanwhile, Batam is rapidly emerging as a strategic hub for AI infrastructure and high-performance computing, supported by its favorable location and growing digital ecosystem.

He noted that Indonesia's data center industry is entering a new phase where the convergence of real estate, digital infrastructure, and capital investment is creating significant opportunities for future growth.

While Greater Jakarta continues to serve as the country's main data center hub, Batam is increasingly positioning itself as a center for AI-ready infrastructure capable of supporting scalable, resilient, and future-proof computing workloads.

Infrastructure and Sustainability Remain Critical

Swamy emphasized that success in Indonesia's increasingly competitive data center market will depend on securing suitable development sites, ensuring reliable power availability, maintaining strong network connectivity, and adopting sustainable development strategies.

Future demand will also be shaped by customer requirements, including facility scalability and performance, security and regulatory compliance, cost efficiency, operational management, system reliability and redundancy, and environmental sustainability.

Impact Extends Beyond Digital Infrastructure

The rapid growth of the data center industry is also reshaping Indonesia's commercial real estate sector.

New data center developments are increasing demand for industrial land, utilities, telecommunications infrastructure, and supporting commercial facilities, further strengthening the connection between the country's digital economy and real estate market.

As digital infrastructure continues to expand, Indonesia is expected to unlock new investment opportunities while accelerating the transformation of commercial property developments nationwide.

Conclusion

Supported by strong investment, expanding hyperscaler activity, and rising demand for cloud and AI infrastructure, Indonesia's data center market is entering a new phase of growth, with Greater Jakarta and Batam emerging as the country's leading digital infrastructure investment hubs.
