Jakarta, INTI - PT PLN (Persero) together with Institut Teknologi PLN (IT PLN) held a renewable energy training program for high school students through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program entitled "Technology Engineering for Renewable Energy in High Schools".
This program is part of PLN's efforts to support the acceleration of the national energy transition and achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by increasing literacy and preparing superior human resources from a young age.
The training, which takes place from July to August 2026, is held at seven high schools in Indonesia, namely SMA Taruna Nusantara Magelang, SMA Gama Yogyakarta, SMA Taruna Brawijaya Jawa Timur, SMAN 1 Binjai, SMAN 4 Medan, SMAN 5 Surabaya, and SMAN 94 Jakarta Barat. More than 250 students from grade 11 and 12 participated in intensive training about solar power plant technology and the concept of waste-to-energy (WTE).
Involving the Younger Generation in Energy Transition Efforts
PLN's Director of Legal and Human Capital Management, Nurlely Aman, emphasized that the involvement of the younger generation is an important factor in facing the challenges of climate change.
"Accelerating the energy transition requires the involvement of all levels of society, especially the younger generation as the nation's successors. Through this education, PLN wants to equip students with practical insight into the use of environmentally friendly energy around us," she said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chancellor IV for Cooperation at IT PLN, Ahsin Sidqi, said that the success of the energy transition requires the participation of all elements of society.
"We hope that the energy transition will be supported by all levels of society, including the younger generation. On the first day, we teach about how solar energy is abundant and can be used to replace limited fossil energy. The second day is WTE, how waste is a problem in various cities and will become a solution when used as energy," he said.
This program consists of four stages, namely two days of in-class training, two days of project practicum, a checkpoint session, and preparation of an accountability report. All participants receive learning materials, mentoring, and certificates after completing the training.
Apart from providing training, PLN also assists in the form of solar power plant units as learning media in schools, Black Soldier Fly (BSF) cultivation equipment to process organic waste, and press equipment for making aromatherapy candles made from maggots.
Through this initiative, PLN confirms its commitment to expanding renewable energy education in various educational institutions as an effort to build strong energy literacy to support the national energy transition.
