Pertamina NRE Partners with Renewable Energy Community to Strengthen Clean Energy Literacy

5 hours ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) supports the new and renewable energy (EBT) forum titled “#EnergiMasaKini: Cheap & Clean Energy Now!”, initiated by the Generasi Energi Bersih Indonesia (GenB Indonesia) and the Masyarakat Energi Terbarukan Indonesia (METI) through METI Energi Muda.

This forum provides a platform for students, academics, energy communities, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss clean energy development and strengthen the role of the younger generation in supporting the national energy transition.

Indonesia’s NRE Potential is not Optimized Yet

Norman Ginting, Chairman of METI and Director of Projects and Operations at Pertamina NRE, stated that Indonesia has renewable energy potential exceeding 3,600 gigawatts (GW). However, this potential has not yet been fully realized in installed capacity that can accelerate the national energy transition target.

"Indonesia has one of the largest renewable energy potentials in the world. Our challenge is how to transform this potential into realized projects, growing industries, and economic benefits felt by the community," said Norman.

To meet the national energy mix target, Indonesia requires an additional 6–8 GW of renewable energy capacity annually. Therefore, conducive regulatory support, competitive financing access, electricity infrastructure readiness, land availability, and an integrated supply chain are required to accelerate renewable energy development.

"We must be a key player in clean energy development, building domestic industry, developing the national supply chain, and improving technological mastery. The energy transition is not just about providing electricity, but also an opportunity to strengthen economic competitiveness and national independence," Norman said.

Energy Security Understanding for the Public

Aside from supporting energy security, renewable energy development is also considered to have the potential to create various job opportunities, new industries, and innovation. Therefore, the involvement of the younger generation is considered crucial to preparing talent capable of meeting the needs of the future energy sector.

Pertamina NRE Corporate Secretary, Sri Nur Hidayati, stated that the forum is part of an effort to increase public understanding of clean energy while strengthening collaboration between stakeholders.

"Pertamina NRE believes that a successful energy transition requires the support of a strong ecosystem, including the involvement of the younger generation as innovators, professionals, and leaders who will drive the energy sector in the future," said Sri.

Conclusion

Pertamina NRE supports the “#EnergiMasaKini: Cheap & Clean Energy Now!” forum held by GenB Indonesia and METI to encourage the involvement of the younger generation in the national energy transition. In the forum, Norman Ginting stated that Indonesia has renewable energy potential of more than 3,600 GW, but the main challenge currently is accelerating the realization of renewable energy investments and projects. To achieve the national energy mix target, Indonesia needs an additional renewable energy capacity of around 6–8 GW per year supported by adequate regulations, financing, infrastructure, land, and supply chains.
