NVIDIA to Invest Up to Rp36.4 Trillion in IREN’s AI Data Center Expansion

11 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - NVIDIA is set to invest up to USD2.1 billion, or approximately Rp36.44 trillion, in data center operator IREN as part of a partnership to develop up to 5 gigawatts of infrastructure to support the surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI).

Reported by CNA on Saturday, May 9, 2026, the agreement highlights the growing need for computing power amid the rapid expansion of AI adoption, as major technology companies and AI developers continue pouring billions of dollars into securing data center capacity.

Following the announcement, IREN shares rose around 9 percent in after-hours trading. The company’s stock had previously closed at USD56.85 (approximately Rp986 thousand) during regular trading hours.

IREN has granted Nvidia the right, over a five-year period, to purchase up to 30 million shares at a price of USD70 (around Rp1.2 million) per share.

Rising AI Spending Drives Demand for Large Scale Data Centers

Several major US technology companies last week reported strong financial results and signaled that AI spending is unlikely to slow down, with combined expenditures expected to exceed USD700 billion (Rp12,147 trillion) this year.

Both companies stated that the partnership aims to accelerate the development of large-scale AI factories by combining Nvidia’s architecture with IREN’s infrastructure capabilities.

Last year, IREN also signed a USD9.7 billion (Rp168.3 trillion) cloud agreement with Microsoft.

IREN is widely recognized as a “neocloud” company, providing cloud computing services powered by Nvidia processors, enabling major technology firms to access large-scale computing capacity without the need to build new data centers themselves.

Conclusion

The partnership between NVIDIA and IREN reflects the accelerating global race to strengthen AI infrastructure and computing capacity. As demand for artificial intelligence continues to grow, large-scale investments in data centers and cloud ecosystems are becoming increasingly critical to supporting the next generation of digital innovation.
