Nica Globalmarin Strengthens Data Center Infrastructure Through the RISING 8 Submarine Cable Project

1 day ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - PT Nica Globalmarin Indonesia is playing a key role in the development of the RISING 8 Submarine Cable System, a subsea network connecting Jakarta, Batam, and Singapore. Designed with a capacity of up to 400 Tbps, the infrastructure aims to support the growing demand for data connectivity driven by the rapid expansion of data centers and digital services across Southeast Asia.

As part of the project, Nica Globalmarin has been entrusted with shore-end installation and cable landing operations in Tanjung Pakis, West Java. The company is also responsible for deploying approximately nine kilometers of shore-end cable along the strategic Jakarta–Batam route.

Managing Cable Installation Along the Jakarta–Batam Corridor

The RISING 8 system spans approximately 1,128.5 kilometers, with the Jakarta–Batam segment covering around 1,053.5 kilometers. The infrastructure is designed to strengthen regional data connectivity amid rising demand for cloud computing, AI infrastructure, hyperscale data centers, and cross-border digital services.

To execute the project, Nica Globalmarin is conducting ship-to-ship cable transpooling operations offshore using modified Landing Craft Tank (LCT) vessels specifically equipped for subsea cable deployment. The company is also carrying out anchor mooring operations to maintain vessel stability during cable transfers between ships.

The installation process requires close coordination between offshore marine operations teams, cable handling specialists, and onshore personnel to ensure the quality, reliability, and safety of the cable deployment throughout the project.

Supporting Regional Data Center Growth

Demand for submarine cable infrastructure continues to rise alongside the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy and data center industry. Industry forecasts suggest that the country’s data center market will continue expanding in the coming years, driven by increasing requirements for data storage, processing, and digital services.

Arnezus Ayal, Director of PT Nica Globalmarin Indonesia, stated that submarine cable infrastructure has become a strategic component in supporting both national and regional digital transformation efforts.

“The growth of data centers, cloud infrastructure, and digital services has made subsea connectivity an increasingly critical infrastructure asset. We believe Indonesia has significant potential to become one of Southeast Asia’s leading digital connectivity hubs,” he said in a statement released on Tuesday.

He added that the participation of Indonesian companies in international projects demonstrates the growing competitiveness of the country’s marine engineering and subsea operations capabilities at the regional level.

Following the completion of cable landing and shore-end installation activities, the RISING 8 project will move into the equipment integration and system connectivity phase. The submarine cable system is targeted to reach Ready for Service (RFS) status in 2026.

Conclusion

The RISING 8 Submarine Cable System represents a significant step in strengthening Southeast Asia’s digital infrastructure and supporting the rapid growth of data centers, cloud services, and AI-driven applications. Through its involvement in critical installation and deployment activities, Nica Globalmarin is contributing to the development of a more resilient and connected digital ecosystem. The project also highlights Indonesia’s growing role as a regional connectivity hub and the increasing capabilities of local companies in delivering world-class subsea infrastructure projects.
