PLN to Supply 1.2 GW of Power for BDx AI Data Centers, Strengthening Indonesia’s Digital Investment Landscape

3 hours ago | Data Center

Jakarta, INTI - State-owned electricity company PLN has reaffirmed its readiness to support the growth of Indonesia’s data center industry through a strategic partnership with BDx Data Centers, including the development of power infrastructure with a total capacity of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) for AI-driven data center and digital service facilities.

PLN’s Director of Retail and Commerce, Adi Priyanto, stated that the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered data centers requires a reliable, stable, and large-scale electricity supply.

“The growth of the data center industry, particularly AI-based facilities, demands substantial, dependable, and uninterrupted power capacity,” Adi said.

As part of the initial phase, PLN will supply 788 MVA of electricity to BDx’s CGK4 facility in Jatiluhur, West Java.

The company will subsequently provide an additional 60 MVA for the CGK3A site in Cilandak, South Jakarta.

PLN will also develop a high-voltage power network with a capacity of 385 MVA to support the CGK5 facility located in the Suryacipta Industrial Estate, West Java.

According to PLN, energy reliability is a critical requirement for the operation of digital infrastructure such as data centers.

Phased Power Infrastructure Development

For the CGK4 facility in Jatiluhur, electricity delivery will be implemented in three development phases.

Phase I will provide a capacity of 2 x 150 MVA, which will be expanded to 2 x 265 MVA in Phase II.

In the final phase, the facility’s power capacity will increase to 2 x 380 MVA.

To ensure long-term reliability, PLN is constructing the new 150-kilovolt (kV) Jatiluhur Substation, which will serve as the primary power source for BDx’s Jatiluhur data center campus.

The company is also preparing two dedicated line bays at the substation to optimize electricity delivery to the CGK4 facility.

Long-Term Partnership Supports Digital Economy Growth

Adi Priyanto emphasized that the collaboration between PLN and BDx Indonesia represents a long-term partnership with significant potential to contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth.

Beyond the CGK4 facility, PLN has also been entrusted to secure electricity supply for the CGK3A site in South Jakarta and the CGK5 facility in West Java’s Suryacipta Industrial Estate.

PLN noted that the partnership extends beyond a conventional electricity supply agreement and forms part of broader efforts to attract investment in high-tech industries.

The company stated that it continues to transform itself into a strategic partner for digital investors seeking to expand operations in Indonesia.

BDx Indonesia CEO Agus Hartono Wijaya expressed appreciation for PLN’s support, highlighting the importance of reliable power infrastructure in maintaining uninterrupted data center operations.

“PLN has become a strategic partner in ensuring the reliability of BDx Indonesia’s data center facilities,” Agus said.

According to him, PLN’s dependable electricity network provides the operational certainty required for high-performance computing environments and supports the long-term expansion of BDx’s data center capacity.

The collaboration underscores the increasingly vital role of the power sector in enabling the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy and AI ecosystem.

Reliable and scalable electricity infrastructure is widely regarded as one of the most important factors in attracting large-scale data center investments and positioning Indonesia as a regional digital hub.

Conclusion

The partnership between PLN and BDx highlights the growing importance of reliable energy infrastructure in supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation. As AI-powered data centers continue to expand, access to large-scale and stable electricity supply will be essential for ensuring operational efficiency and attracting long-term investment. By developing power infrastructure with a capacity of up to 1.2 GW, PLN is strengthening the foundation for Indonesia’s ambitions to become a leading digital and AI hub in the region.
