Jakarta, INTI - The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) has introduced a new innovation in traffic services through the launch of a Digital Driver’s License (Digital SIM) during the 2026 National Traffic Function Technical Working Meeting (Rakernis).
Deputy National Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo stated that the innovation was designed to simplify public services and improve accessibility for citizens.
“This is the latest innovation from the Head of Korlantas within the integrated Signal service system. It includes driver’s license services, vehicle registration renewal services, and vehicle ownership document services that have been designed by the Head of Korlantas,” he said on Friday, May 22, 2026.
Digital Driver’s License Enhances Public Service Accessibility
Through the Digital SIM, users can access their driver’s license directly via the Digital Korlantas application without needing to carry a physical card at all times.
To enhance security and prevent fraud, the Digital SIM is equipped with a dynamic barcode that refreshes every 10 seconds, making it impossible to duplicate through screenshots or unauthorized transfers.
The system has also obtained cybersecurity certification from Indonesia’s National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to ensure stronger data protection.
Drone-Based ETLE Strengthens Traffic Enforcement and Verification
In addition, Korlantas introduced another innovation in the form of a mobile drone-based Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system, or electronic ticketing drone.
According to the Deputy Police Chief, the drone-based ETLE system is more flexible in detecting potential traffic violations across multiple road areas while also being capable of facial recognition verification.
“To minimize errors in traffic enforcement, the system can verify identities using facial recognition technology. This is a remarkable step forward,” he explained.
He added that these technological breakthroughs reflect the Indonesian National Police’s commitment to continuously improving public services, particularly in the field of traffic management and law enforcement.
Conclusion
The launch of the Digital SIM and drone-based ETLE system marks another major step in Indonesia’s digital transformation within public services and law enforcement. By integrating secure digital identity technology, dynamic verification systems, and AI-powered traffic monitoring, Korlantas aims to improve convenience, strengthen security, and enhance the efficiency of traffic management across the country.
