Kemkomdigi Expands Digital Literacy Education to “Sekolah Rakyat” in Indonesia

7 months ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI – Indonesian children are becoming increasingly familiar with the digital world. From playing online games to watching videos, access to technology has become a daily norm. However, this convenience comes with risks such as exposure to harmful content, cyberbullying, and misleading online gambling ads. In response, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is launching a targeted digital literacy education program for “Sekolah Rakyat ” across the country.

Sekolah Rakyat Targeted for Digital Literacy Outreach

Kemkomdigi aims to reach all Sekolah Rakyat in Indonesia with this program. According to Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, Head of the Human Resource Development Agency at Kemkomdigi, the digital education initiative will be rolled out widely and comprehensively, with topics tailored to the needs of young learners.

Sekolah Rakyat are one of our key targets for delivering digital literacy education. Our goal is to ensure that all of these schools can benefit from this initiative,” said Bonifasius.

Core Topics: Online Gambling Risks, Cyber Ethics, and More

The program features a wide range of essential topics, from the basics of cybersecurity and data analysis to the dangers of online gambling, cyberbullying, and digital ethics. Kemkomdigi emphasizes that these issues are increasingly relevant given the high internet usage among children for gaming and entertainment.

“Misleading advertisements can easily appear in online games, making children vulnerable to harmful exposure. That’s why digital literacy is crucial to help them navigate these risks safely,” Bonifasius explained.

Curriculum Integration and Cross-Sector Collaboration

To strengthen the program’s impact, Kemkomdigi is working in collaboration with schools, local education offices, relevant ministries/agencies, and various communities and organizations. The digital literacy materials are embedded into existing subjects like Informatics, Coding, and Artificial Intelligence.

“This collaboration ensures that digital literacy becomes part of the formal learning process,” said Bonifasius.

Interactive Methods and Self-Learning Options

To ensure that the materials are engaging and effective, Kemkomdigi employs diverse teaching methods including interactive workshops, thematic classes, and digital storytelling. In addition, online self-learning courses are also made available for students. The program is structured around four key pillars: Digital Skills, Digital Safety, Digital Culture, and Digital Ethics.

Conclusion

Kemkomdigi demonstrates its commitment to enhancing digital literacy among Indonesian children, especially students at Sekolah Rakyat, by providing education on the wise and safe use of technology. Through thematic and collaborative approaches, this program equips students with essential digital knowledge such as AI, coding, and cybersecurity, while also raising awareness about harmful content like online gambling and cyberbullying. This initiative aims to nurture a young generation that is digitally skilled, secure, and ethical in navigating the digital era.
