Jakarta, INTI - PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) is strengthening its commitment to expanding and enhancing its telecommunications network across Lampung Province, particularly in Metro City.
“After previously becoming a pioneer in the rollout of 4G networks on Sumatra, Lampung is once again a key focus for Indosat’s 5G network expansion,” said Agus Sulistio, Head of Circle Sumatera at PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, in Metro on Saturday.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at responding to the growing demand for reliable digital connectivity among communities across the region.
“Lampung Province, and Metro in particular, holds historical significance for us. The first 4G network rollout in Sumatra took place in Lampung, and we are now upgrading that technology by bringing 5G to the region for the first time,” Agus said.
According to Indosat’s internal data, approximately 50% of the population in Lampung and Metro consists of Generation Z and Millennials, who are highly reliant on technology in their daily activities.
The strong dependence of younger populations, MSMEs, content creators, and communities on internet connectivity has become a key reason for Indosat to provide more reliable and advanced network services.
5G and AI to Support Productivity and Local Economic Growth
Beyond improving network quality, Indosat’s 5G expansion is also designed to support the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to help improve productivity and efficiency across communities.
Users of IM3 and Tri services will also gain access to additional benefits through digital ecosystem partnerships with global service providers, including Google and Adobe.
Through capital expenditure (capex) focused on continued investment and innovation, Indosat expects the deployment of 5G technology to generate a meaningful impact on economic growth in Metro City and the wider Lampung Province.
