Jakarta, INTI - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has noted that companies in Indonesia are increasingly developing environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-based innovations to strengthen governance and support sustainability targets.
The Chairperson of Kadin’s ESG Task Force, Maria R. Nindita Radyati, stated that this is evident in two main aspects, ESG Governance and Project Implementation.
ESG Governance with Monitoring
In terms of governance, several companies are utilizing information technology through ESG dashboards that enable real-time monitoring of sustainability performance.
"In terms of governance, they are innovating a lot by using IT. They are using advanced technology for the ESG dashboard itself, allowing for continual sustainability performance monitoring, such as live streaming," said Maria.
This technology enables companies to monitor environmental and social aspects, including programs for employees, customers, suppliers, the community, and various stakeholder complaints.
Project Implementation with Renewable Resource
In project implementation, company innovations are also increasingly diverse, such as utilizing water from renewable sources and recycling up to 60% of water needs in the nickel sector, as well as Pertamina Hulu Energi's community-empowerment-based waste-to-energy program.
Maria said these innovations will be published on the official Kadin website and a dedicated ESG page as a reference and learning tool. "Companies can also learn from each other and inspire and share ideas with the public. The younger generation can also read the case studies," she said.
Conclusion
Kadin noted that Indonesian companies are increasingly actively developing ESG-based innovations to strengthen governance and support sustainability. These innovations include the use of information technology through ESG dashboards to monitor sustainability performance in real time, as well as various sustainable projects such as water recycling in the nickel industry and community-based waste-to-energy programs.
