Jakarta, INTI - Bank Indonesia, in collaboration with the Bank of Korea, has officially launched cross-border QRIS payment connectivity between Indonesia and South Korea, effective April 1, 2026.
Through this innovation, Indonesian users can now make seamless transactions in South Korea using their domestic payment applications, eliminating the need to exchange foreign currency.
The system operates using each country’s local currency, making transactions more efficient, faster, and significantly more cost-effective for users.
Strengthening Digital Economic Integration
This initiative is part of a broader strategic collaboration under the Joint Vision Statement agreed upon by the governments of Indonesia and South Korea, aimed at strengthening digital economic integration between the two nations.
The implementation of cross-border QRIS is expected to drive inclusive economic growth, particularly by empowering MSMEs, boosting the tourism sector, and creating new opportunities for businesses to expand internationally.
As of February 2026, QRIS adoption has reached 60.77 million users, with cross-border transaction volumes continuing to rise, including partnerships with Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Japan.
The introduction of QRIS payment functionality in South Korea is expected to further expand Indonesia’s global digital payment ecosystem, while strengthening a more integrated and sustainable international financial connectivity framework.
Conclusion
The launch of cross-border QRIS between Indonesia and South Korea marks a significant milestone in advancing seamless digital payments. By enabling faster, more affordable transactions and strengthening regional financial integration, this initiative not only enhances user convenience but also supports broader economic growth and global digital connectivity.
