Jakarta Explores Shenzhen’s AI and IoT Solutions to Improve Water Management

5 hours ago | Smart City

Jakarta, INTI - The Jakarta Provincial Government is exploring potential cooperation with Shenzhen Water Group to adopt advanced urban water management technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The initiative was discussed by Jakarta’s Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) during its visit to Shenzhen, China, where officials accompanied PAM Jaya in a meeting with Shenzhen Water Group on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Head of Jakarta’s PPKUKM Department Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo said Shenzhen’s experience and technological innovations could help address some of Jakarta’s growing urban challenges.

“Jakarta has its own urban needs and challenges, while Shenzhen has extensive experience and technological innovation. We hope this connection can develop into knowledge sharing, technical cooperation, and technology transfer,” Elisabeth said.

AI and IoT Targeted for Smarter Water Distribution

The meeting explored the potential implementation of smart water management systems using IoT and AI to improve Jakarta’s water management operations.

The proposed cooperation would also focus on improving water distribution efficiency and reducing non-revenue water (NRW), or water that is lost before generating revenue.

Shenzhen’s experience in developing technology-driven urban infrastructure is considered relevant to Jakarta’s efforts to transform into a more digital, resilient, and sustainable city.

The initiative represents one of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to expand opportunities for knowledge exchange, technical collaboration, and technology transfer with Shenzhen.

China Agenda Opens Opportunities for Strategic Cooperation

The engagement with Shenzhen Water Group is part of Jakarta’s broader agenda in China, which coincides with Indonesia’s participation in the China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF) 2026 in Guangzhou.

CISMEF serves as a platform connecting governments, businesses, investors, and economic partners from across the Asia-Pacific region.

The agenda also forms part of preparations for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen on November 18–19, 2026.

Through the CISMEF and APEC momentum, the Jakarta Provincial Government aims not only to expand market access for local MSMEs, but also to build strategic partnerships in key areas, including technology and urban infrastructure.

Conclusion

Jakarta’s exploration of AI and IoT solutions from Shenzhen highlights the growing role of smart technology in building more efficient, resilient, and sustainable urban infrastructure. By strengthening knowledge sharing, technical cooperation, and technology transfer, the initiative could support Jakarta’s efforts to modernize water management and accelerate its transformation into a smarter city.
