Indonesia Ranks 2nd in Southeast Asia and 12th Globally for the Cheapest Broadband Price in the World

Jakarta, INTI - Global Broadband Price League 2026 report revealed that Indonesia has the second-lowest average cost of wired internet in Southeast Asia, even lower than Malaysia and Singapore. Though this comparison is based only on nominal prices. Research conducted by the independent service site Broadband Genie shows significant differences in internet service prices across countries, including in Southeast Asia.

Regionally in Southeast Asia, Vietnam holds the position of the country with the cheapest internet rates, while Timor Leste holds the most expensive. Globally, Southeast Asian countries are ranked from 11th to 201st. Indonesia ranks 12th out of 214 countries with an average cost of around US$10.66 (Rp181,000), slightly below Vietnam, which is in 11th place at US$10.24.

According to broadband expert Alex Tofts, high broadband costs are generally found in remote countries or regions with difficult geography, including island nations with limited access to regional networks. He also added that many countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia have relatively low rates, supported by the development of extensive fiber-optic networks.

Price per Mbps

When measured in terms of broadband speed (cost per Mbps), Indonesia is at a disadvantage. Singapore has an average internet speed of 410 Mbps, so the estimated price per Mbps is around US$0.08. 

Thailand has an estimated monthly cost of US$23.30 with an average speed of 272.6 Mbps, so the cost per Mbps is US$0.08.

Meanwhile, Indonesia, with an average monthly cost of US$10.22, has an internet speed of only 31.2 Mbps. As a result, the estimated price per Mbps is around US$0.34.

Global Broadband Price League 2026 report lists Indonesia as the country with the second-cheapest wired internet in Southeast Asia and 12th globally, with an average cost of around US$10.66. Vietnam is the cheapest, while Timor Leste is the most expensive, with significant price differences across countries in the region.
