5 months ago | FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY

Jakarta, INTI – The Indonesian government continues to promote digital transformation as a vital component of its national development agenda. One concrete step is its collaboration with Australia through the bilateral Indonesia–Australia partnership program, Prospera. This strategic cooperation is expected to accelerate the growth of Indonesia's digital economy and strengthen the nation’s position in achieving its Vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.

Boosting Digital Economy’s Contribution to National GDP

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, stated that the strategic partnership with Prospera aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to 19 percent of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2045. This was conveyed during her meeting with Prospera Deputy Director, Della Temenggung, at the Ministry's office in Central Jakarta, on Friday,1, August, 2025.

"To reach this target, we need to master technology and accelerate digitalization across all sectors," said Meutya. Digital transformation is one of the 17 national development agendas and serves as a fundamental pillar in advancing efficient governance and inclusive economic growth.

Two Pillars Toward Golden Indonesia

According to Meutya, the partnership focuses on two key pillars: strengthening digital governance and policy direction, as well as mapping and enhancing internal capacity. This initiative will bolster the role of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs in realizing a fast, adaptive, and impactful digital transformation for the public.

“Our goal is clear: to become a developed country with the fifth-largest GDP in the world by 2045,” she emphasized.

Australia’s Support for Accelerated Digitalization

Prospera’s Deputy Director, Della Temenggung, welcomed the Indonesian government’s initiative. She believes now is the perfect time to leap into a more inclusive digital future.

“This is the moment where we see the opportunity to leap toward 2045,” she said.

As a bilateral cooperation program between the Indonesian and Australian governments through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Prospera is committed to supporting Indonesia’s economic and digital transformation policies.

Digital Economy: A Pillar of National Growth

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stressed that the digital economy has become a vital pillar of inclusive and sustainable national growth. The e-commerce sector is the largest contributor, accounting for around 72 percent of Indonesia’s total digital economy value.

He also noted that Indonesia is the largest digital market in Southeast Asia, with its digital economy projected to reach USD 600 billion by 2030.

Conclusion:
The Indonesia - Australia collaboration through the Prospera program marks a strategic move in strengthening Indonesia’s national digital transformation. With international support, stronger policies, and technological mastery, Indonesia targets a 19 percent digital economy contribution to GDP by 2045. This initiative is a crucial step toward realizing the Golden Indonesia vision, with the digital economy as a key driver of future development.
