GoPay Accelerates QRIS Tap Adoption to Boost Cashless Transactions in Jabodetabek

6 months ago | FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY

Jakarta, INTI – The growing demand for faster, more practical, and frictionless payment methods has become a key focus in the public transportation ecosystem. In response to these challenges, GoPay introduced an enhanced QRIS Tap service during an official briefing, offering a solution that supports the digital payment initiatives launched by Bank Indonesia. This effort not only addresses user complaints about long top-up queues for transportation cards but also delivers a new level of convenience aligned with the development of the national payment system. As urban mobility continues to rise, this feature serves as an efficient digital solution for anyone needing smoother daily transactions.

Rapid Growth in QRIS Tap Adoption Across Transportation Modes

GoPay has recorded a sharp increase in QRIS Tap usage, surpassing hundreds of thousands of transactions particularly across major transportation modes such as the KRL Commuter Line, LRT Jakarta, LRT Jabodebek, MRT Jakarta, and TransJakarta. According to GoTo Financial President Director Sudhanshu Raheja, this rapid growth is driven by strong support from Bank Indonesia, which continues to push for accelerated cashless transactions.

He noted that users, especially younger commuters, find QRIS Tap to greatly streamline their daily travel. They no longer need to buy or top up transportation cards; they simply tap their phones at station gates to make payments instantly.

QRIS Tap: Faster NFC-Based Payments

QRIS Tap leverages NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, allowing users to complete transactions by tapping their phones on QRIS-enabled machines. This feature became a significant breakthrough after Bank Indonesia officially launched QRIS Tap In & Out on October 30, 2025, for five major transportation modes in Jabodetabek.

The feature is now available through the GoPay app. Users simply open the app, select the QRIS menu, tap QRIS Tap, and complete payments without needing extra card balance. Beyond public transportation, QRIS Tap can also be used for:

  • Parking
  • Retail stores
  • MSMEs

Each week, GoPay records tens of thousands of QRIS Tap transactions, reflecting strong adoption growth.

Support for the Indonesia Payment System Blueprint (BSPI) 2030

Sudhanshu Raheja emphasized that GoPay remains committed to supporting the BSPI 2030 vision outlined by Bank Indonesia, as well as the national digital payment agenda within the government’s Asta Cita framework. He highlighted that Bank Indonesia’s vision and execution have been key drivers of QRIS Tap’s successful implementation so far.

“User feedback has also been very positive, especially from young users who rely on QRIS Tap daily,” he said in an official statement.

Conclusion

The rising use of QRIS Tap on GoPay shows that the public is increasingly ready to transition to faster and more efficient digital payment methods. With strong support from Bank Indonesia and the integration of NFC technology, this service has the potential to become a new standard in public transportation payments and beyond. GoPay plays a crucial role in expanding broader, more integrated cashless access aligned with the BSPI 2030 vision.
