5 days ago | FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY

Jakarta, INTI - Amid the growing demand for faster mobility and more efficient daily transactions, fintech once again proves to be a practical solution for urban communities. Thursday, November,6,2025 became the stage for the launch of the collaboration between ShopeePay and Bank Indonesia (BI) to roll out the QRIS Tap In–Tap Out service across public transportation modes such as TransJakarta, MRT, LRT, and KRL Commuter Line. This feature addresses the demand for faster tap times, reduces queue congestion, and eliminates dependence on electronic money cards, which have long posed technical challenges for commuters.

Fintech Transformation and Mobility Access

President Director of ShopeePay Indonesia, Eka Nilam Dari, emphasized that the company consistently promotes strategic collaboration with regulators. With Indonesians increasingly accustomed to digital transactions, fintech innovations need to accelerate to remain relevant and simplify cashless payment adoption.

Bank Indonesia had previously launched the QRIS Tap In–Tap Out feature on October 31 for five public transport modes, and the partnership with ShopeePay is expected to accelerate its adoption in the field.

Tap Your Phone, No Card, Faster

With the QRIS Tap feature on mobile phones, passengers no longer need to carry a separate e-money card. They simply tap their smartphones on the reader gate when entering and exiting. BI reported that the tap process takes approximately 0.3 seconds per transaction, significantly faster than previous QRIS generations that still required manual scanning or chip-based cards.

ShopeePay QRIS Usable Across Borders

Beyond Indonesia, ShopeePay is expanding QRIS integration internationally. Users can now utilize QRIS in Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore. BI is also exploring collaborations with other countries including South Korea, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.

Conclusion:
The ShopeePay – BI collaboration to activate QRIS Tap in public transportation demonstrates that fintech innovation can simplify public mobility, speed up transaction times, and promote a more sustainable cashless culture.
