Jakarta, INTI - Several global technology companies, including Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and OpenAI, have formed a coalition to strengthen efforts against online fraud through a joint agreement announced on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Industry Coalition Targets Rising Online Scams
The coalition, named the Industry Accord Against Online Scams and Fraud, was established as a collaborative initiative to address the growing threat of digital crime occurring across multiple platforms.
In addition to major tech firms, the agreement also includes companies such as Adobe, LinkedIn, Target, Levi Strauss & Co., Match Group, and Pinterest.
The coalition aims to introduce a unified, industry-wide approach to combating online scams, which are often carried out by organized criminal networks.
Strengthening Security Systems and Fraud Detection
As part of its implementation, the coalition plans to develop various measures, including enhanced fraud detection tools, improved user security features, and stricter verification systems for financial transactions.
In addition, the group will establish best practices for detecting, preventing, and reporting fraud, while also encouraging greater information sharing between companies and law enforcement agencies.
On the policy front, the coalition intends to advocate for governments worldwide to prioritize fraud prevention as a national agenda.
However, all commitments under this agreement remain voluntary, with no penalties imposed on companies that choose not to comply.
Several participating companies have already introduced anti-fraud features, such as suspicious account alerts by Meta and recruiter identity verification by LinkedIn.
Conclusion
The formation of this global coalition marks a significant step toward addressing the growing threat of online fraud through collective industry action. By combining technology, shared intelligence, and coordinated strategies, the initiative has the potential to strengthen digital security across platforms. However, its long-term effectiveness will depend on consistent commitment, cross-sector collaboration, and stronger alignment with regulatory frameworks worldwide.
