Jakarta, INTI – Amid the widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) to write articles, essays, and reports across various digital platforms, the ability to distinguish between human writing and machine-generated text has become a new challenge for the education, media, and creative industries. In a test conducted by ZDNet, it was found that only five AI detection tools were able to identify ChatGPT-generated text with perfect accuracy, achieving a 100 percent success rate. The test was carried out to address public concerns over the misuse of AI in digital content creation and to find practical solutions for maintaining the authenticity of written works.
Testing Ten AI Detection Tools
In the study, the ZDNet team evaluated ten of the most popular AI content detectors, including BrandWell, Copyleaks, GPT-2 Output Detector, GPTZero, Grammarly, Monica, Originality.ai, QuillBot, Undetectable.ai, Writer.com, and ZeroGPT.
Each tool was tasked with analyzing five text samples two written by humans and three generated by ChatGPT. The results were then compared to determine each tool’s accuracy in identifying the true origin of the text.
The testing criteria established that if a detector assigned a probability above 70%, the text was considered “very likely” to be either human-written or AI-generated.
Five Tools with 100% Accuracy
Out of all the tested tools, only five successfully identified every text correctly without error both human and AI-generated content.
These five tools are:

- Originality.ai
- QuillBot
- Undetectable.ai
- ZeroGPT
These tools consistently distinguished between authentic human writing and AI-generated text, demonstrating stable performance across all test samples.
Other Tools Showed Inconsistent Results
Other tools such as BrandWell, Grammarly, Copyleaks, and Writer.com showed less stable results. In some cases, human-written text was mistakenly flagged as AI-generated, while ChatGPT text was recognized as natural writing. This inconsistency highlights that not all AI detectors can adapt effectively to diverse linguistic styles and complex sentence structures.
Beware of Limitations and Result Variations
ZDNet researchers cautioned the public not to rely entirely on AI detector results. Accuracy may decline when the text being analyzed is written by non-native English speakers or uses an unconventional writing style. Moreover, each AI detection tool employs different algorithms and analytical approaches, which can cause variations in results depending on the topic, text length, and writing style.
