Jakarta, INTI - Indonesian companies are becoming increasingly ready to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI), with implementation readiness now surpassing the Asia-Pacific average. However, despite the growing momentum, many organizations continue to face significant challenges related to data infrastructure and management.
The findings were revealed in Confluent's 2026 Data Streaming Report, which surveyed 4,625 IT leaders across 14 countries, including 225 respondents from Indonesia.
The report found that 83% of Indonesian companies have already deployed or are piloting agentic AI solutions, exceeding the Asia-Pacific average of 75%.
Data Challenges Remain the Biggest Obstacle
Despite strong AI adoption, many organizations are still unprepared to support AI with reliable data infrastructure.
Rully Moulany, Area Vice President for Asia at Confluent, said that data-related issues remain the primary barrier to successful AI implementation.
"About 70–80% of respondents identified data as their biggest challenge. Eight out of ten companies said they still lack the infrastructure needed to process data efficiently," he said during a media roundtable in Jakarta.
According to Rully, these challenges extend beyond Indonesia and are common across countries accelerating AI-driven digital transformation.
Companies continue to struggle with fragmented data ownership, shortages of AI-skilled talent, and poor data quality used to train AI systems.
He also emphasized the importance of data lineage, enabling AI systems to verify the origin and reliability of data before using it in decision-making.
"If AI is trained with unreliable data, the results may be inaccurate or even lead to hallucinations," he explained.
Data Streaming Becomes a Strategic Investment
To address these challenges, Confluent identified data streaming technology as a key enabler for AI adoption.
By providing AI systems with real-time, trusted, and contextual data, data streaming helps improve the speed and accuracy of AI-driven insights and decision-making.
The survey also highlighted strong investment intentions, with 99% of Indonesian IT leaders identifying data streaming as an investment priority, while 74% have already deployed data streaming platforms in mission-critical business systems.
Rully added that stronger investment in data streaming infrastructure will directly improve AI performance and business outcomes.
