Coordinating Ministry Strengthens Cybersecurity Culture in the Aviation Sector Through AirNav Indonesia's Cybersecurity Awareness and Exercise Program

20 hours ago | Digital Technology

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam) participated in the 2026 Cyber Security Awareness & Exercise, organized by AirNav Indonesia in collaboration with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) in Surabaya. The program forms part of the government's broader effort to strengthen cybersecurity culture and improve workforce readiness against cyber threats targeting the aviation navigation sector.

The event brought together AirNav Indonesia employees from its Surabaya branch through in-person sessions, while participants from other regional offices joined virtually. The program featured discussions on the evolving national and global cyber threat landscape, cybersecurity awareness, Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), and a hands-on Capture the Flag (CTF) simulation designed to provide practical experience in identifying and responding to cyberattacks.

The initiative also serves as a follow-up to Kemenko Polkam's recommendations on enhancing cybersecurity across Indonesia's airport operational environment. It builds upon previous capacity-building efforts conducted at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and reinforces the government's commitment to strengthening cybersecurity across the aviation sector.

Collaboration to Strengthen National Cyber Resilience

Representing Kemenko Polkam, Assistant Deputy for Cybersecurity Prevention and Capacity Building, Air Commodore Budi Eko Pratomo, emphasized that cybersecurity has become an integral component of aviation safety and operational continuity. He noted that strengthening human resources is a strategic investment, as people remain the first line of defense against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

"This program represents a concrete implementation of Kemenko Polkam's recommendations to strengthen cybersecurity within the aviation sector. Cyber threats do not recognize organizational or sectoral boundaries, making close collaboration among government agencies, aviation service providers, and industry stakeholders essential. Strengthening workforce capabilities through initiatives like this is a critical step toward building a sustainable cybersecurity culture," Budi said during the event in Surabaya on July 14, 2026.

Through initiatives such as the Cyber Security Awareness & Exercise, Kemenko Polkam will continue to promote stronger coordination among ministries, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to enhance cybersecurity competencies, strengthen the implementation of Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), and conduct regular cybersecurity exercises.

The ministry expects these collaborative efforts to improve the protection of Indonesia's Critical Information Infrastructure in the air transportation sector while supporting safer aviation operations and strengthening the country's overall cyber resilience.

Conclusion

As cyber threats continue to evolve, strengthening cybersecurity awareness and workforce capabilities has become essential for protecting critical aviation infrastructure. Through cross-sector collaboration, regular training, and enhanced information security practices, Indonesia is reinforcing the resilience of its aviation sector while supporting safer air navigation services and stronger national cyber security.
