Indonesia's Defense Ministry Strengthens Cybersecurity and Data Protection Collaboration with Finland

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia's Ministry of Defense (MoD) is exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation with the Finnish government in cybersecurity and data protection following a meeting between Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Pekka Kaihilahti at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The meeting focused on expanding defense cooperation between Indonesia and Finland across several strategic sectors.

Advancing Defense Technology and Cybersecurity Cooperation

Details of the meeting were shared through Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin's official Instagram account.

According to the statement, the discussions centered on opportunities to enhance bilateral defense collaboration, particularly in the areas of data sovereignty and protection, C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) technologies, satellite communications, Maritime Domain Awareness, surveillance systems, cybersecurity, and the development of maritime defense capabilities.

The proposed areas of cooperation reflect both countries' shared interest in strengthening digital defense infrastructure and improving resilience against evolving cyber threats.

Sjafrie noted that Finland's advanced technological expertise makes it a valuable partner for developing Indonesia's cyber defense capabilities.

Human Capital Development Remains a Priority

In addition to technology collaboration, the Ministry of Defense is seeking to establish partnerships in human resource development to strengthen Indonesia's defense capabilities.

The ministry believes that improving cybersecurity capacity must be accompanied by the development of skilled personnel capable of operating and managing advanced defense technologies effectively.

Sjafrie expressed hope that the meeting would further strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Finland while opening the door to broader cooperation in defense and security in the future.
