Chinese Drone Giant DJI Launches First Robotic Vacuum Cleaner Series

8 months ago | Drone Industry

Jakarta, INTI – China’s drone giant, DJI, has officially entered the smart home cleaning market by launching its first robotic vacuum cleaner series on Wednesday, 6, August 2025, expanding its technological expertise beyond aerial devices.

The new product line, named the DJI ROMO series, combines sweeping and mopping functions, utilizing the company’s proprietary environmental sensing technology and intelligent path planning originally developed for its drone operations.

Strategic Shift into Smart Home Solutions

“ROMO represents DJI’s first strategic shift from aerial intelligence to home cleaning scenarios,” said Zhang Xiaonan, DJI’s Shenzhen-based spokesperson.

Although household floors differ from aerial environments, the basic principle remains the same leveraging intelligent navigation, environmental perception, and precise control to enable machines to serve humans more effectively and intelligently, Zhang explained.

DJI’s expertise in drone technology positions it to address major challenges in the robotic vacuum industry, Zhang added.

Global Expansion Plans

The company stated that the ROMO series is expected to enter overseas markets by the end of this year, though the exact launch dates and target regions have yet to be confirmed.

According to market research firm IDC, global shipments of robotic vacuum cleaners reached 20.6 million units in 2024, marking an 11.2% year-on-year increase. IDC’s first-quarter 2025 report shows global shipments rose to 5.1 million units, up 11.9% compared to the same period last year. Chinese brands such as Roborock, Ecovacs, Dreame, and Xiaomi occupied four of the top five spots by shipment volume.

Conclusion:
DJI’s entry into the robotic vacuum cleaner market marks a significant diversification of its business, leveraging drone-born navigation and sensing technology to compete in the rapidly growing smart home sector. With established Chinese brands already dominating the market, DJI’s presence could further intensify competition both domestically and globally.
